It's Finally Spring!

The snow is practically gone, the sun feels warm on our faces, and the gardens are waking up! 

Time to get back out in the community and see our city bloom!

This month we have Stories from our Neighborhood: Our Asian-American Neighbors on Wednesday, April 11, a movie night about sustainable growth AND the Producer Dave Gardner will join us for questions and answers on Thursday, April 12!

The next week we'll celebrate EarthDay! Join us in making Columbia Heights SHINE on Saturday, April 21. And let's get cooking, we have our first Jam Making Class also on Saturday, April 21!

Come hear three very different life stories from our Asian American Neighbors: A Buddhist monk, our local mail carrier, and a national performing musician! 

Bhante Seewalie - Abbot and President of Minnesota Buddhist Vihara in North Minneapolis and was born and raised in Sri Lanka.

Danyetta Chea - Entrepreneur and Columbia Heights letter carrier. She is a proud single mother of two and she is astutely respectful of her elder’s ways and knowledge. 

Peter Shu - Born in Hong Kong and has toured nationally as a performer. He lives in NE Minneapolis and works as a professor at Northcentral College, a business owner, and a father.

Our society profits on growth, but are we reaching a point where we can’t grow anymore?

Join us at the Columbia Heights Public Safety Building/Fire Station for this free event. Snacks included. Stay after the movie for a question & answer session with the film’s producer, Dave Gardner!

Cash donations are gladly accepted to help offset the screening costs. The public is welcome.

Earth Day Clean Up

Saturday, April 21 8:30 am (all weather event)
Murzyn Hall parking lot at 530 Mill St NE, Columbia Heights

Dress for the weather and bring gloves. We provide bags, safety vests, pickers. We'll pick up trash in teams along Central and University Avenues, some groups may clean parks. When everyone is finished around 10:30 am head back to the parking lot for FREE coffee and donuts! Signup Here!!

NEW this year Shred-It will be in the parking lot to shred your important paperwork FOR FREE! Brought to us from the Columbia Heights Lions. Awesome!

Join us for Jam Making 101! 
We will provide the materials, inspiration, recipes, and instructions as we learn from an expert jam canner. We will have a demonstration as well as samples.
