No Way!  New Park Bond Property Zoned for Development:  This 88-acre property on Burnt Hickory Road was selected in October 2016 to become a community park with Park Bond 2008 funds, but on Tuesday, Feb 7, 2017 the Planning Commission approved zoning this property for development!
NOTE: The final zoning approval is planned for February 21, 2017 by the Board of Commissioners, so you can make a difference today. Please email your Commissioners about taking action on parks!  Yet again Cobb County may lose another incredible resource due to inaction on the Park Bond referendum voters approved.  We have lost so many of the original 29 Park Bond properties selected, and now we may lose even more ideal parkland on the new list of 13 Park Bond properties. To date, the Commissioners haven't announced their park lists for purchase, and only $24.7 of the full $40 million of Park Bond 2008 has been funded.

Good to Know:  The Board of Commissioners can use more than $40 million for the acquisition of parkland.  Since the Board has not acted on the Park Bond referendum in over 8 years, that is a reasonable expectation given the increasing cost of land and Cobb's own Parks & Greenspace Plan!

"In addition to the proceeds of the Proposed Park Bonds, if and to the extent available, the Board of Commissioners may determine to apply any other available funds to pay a portion of the costs of the acquisition of park land." Park Bond 2008 Resolution, Section 2, Page 91
The Many Benefits of Parks:  Parks increase home values, tourism, and quality of life.  Having neighborhood parks with trails means people can walk instead of drive, and this helps the roads have less traffic. Parks also help the public safety department by creating healthier and safer communities. Parks help the water table, and with less impervious surface, there is less flooding.

Park Bond 2006 was a huge success, which is why 65% of voters approved Park Bond 2008 and continue to press for it to be fully funded.

Thank you for your continued efforts to encourage the Board of Commissioners to fully fund & take action on the Park Bond we voted for by referendum.
