- Today, the Board of Commissioners approved $24.7 million of the original $40 million Park Bond 2008 voters approved by Referendum in 2008. This is a great first step towards full funding, and we will continue to push for the county to fund the other $15.3 million, as Cobb County is obligated by law to do.
- As we know, taxes slated for Park Bond 2008 funds were re-allocated into the Braves stadium in 2016 under Chairman Lee, despite thousands of citizens pointing out Park Bond 2008 must be funded first. Today, part of the Park Bond 2008 referendum mandate was funded under Chairman Boyce by restoring the taxes earmarked for park bond repayment.
- We are hopeful other sources, such as the Georgia Environment Finance Authority which helps counties fund Park Bonds, can give Cobb County a loan for the other $15.3 million. We will keep you updated on developments as they occur.
