Keep an Eye Out For These New Faces

We are pleased to introduce the newest writing specialist, Lindsey Allgood. Lindsey began tutoring writing at the University of Oklahoma Writing Center in 2011. While at the OU WC, she served as the Fine Arts Writing Fellow and developed workshops for undergraduate and graduate students. She received her Master of Fine Arts in fine art, focusing on performance and digital art, a Bachelors of Art in professional writing and journalism, both from the University of Oklahoma. She is excited to offer new creative writing opportunities for student writers in all departments, and she is open to brainstorming with faculty.

Megan Linos is now the new Director of the Center for Instructional Design. Prior to UCI, she served as the Assistant Provost for Distance Learning at University of Southern Indiana, providing strategic leadership for institutional Distance Learning initiatives. Her primary goal was to cultivate positive culture transformation by nurturing a cohesive faculty peer support network that enhances learning innovations. Megan is eager to devote her efforts and due diligence serving faculty creating online learning innovations at the University of California, Irvine.

Paying it Forward: The UCI First Generation Faculty Initiative

Nearly 60% of undergraduates students at the University of California, Irvine are first generation students. Enjoy this “Small Teaching” workshop put on by De Gallow, Ph.D., Academic Executive Director of Instructional Development for the Center for Engaged Instruction. She discusses seven small strategies that can be used in the classroom to bring awareness and support to first generation students.

Matthew Desmond Receives the 12th Annual Human Security Award

The Human Security Award is presented annually to an individual or group whose actions have made a dramatic difference in helping protect and empower the world’s most vulnerable groups and communities. The Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation is pleased to announce the 12th annual Human Security Award will be presented to Dr. Matthew Desmond.
