Consultation in regulations for GE Power's delivery

Our experts assisted GE Power in the requirements of Finnish legislation related to the delivery of equipment for a waste-to-energy plant. GE Power is one of the world’s leading energy producers and operates throughout the energy value chain from production to consumption.

GE Power will supply a flue gas treatment unit and a water treatment unit to Vantaan Energia, who has started the expansion of its current waste-to-energy plant in Vantaa. In the engineering phase, MAB Powertec consulted the supplier on the requirements of Finnish legislation related to the following entities: process equipment, electricity, machinery, pressure parts, environmental issues and permits, EHS, and chemical handling and storage. Our experts assisted in compiling and applying the relevant Finnish laws and requirements in GE Power’s delivery.

MAB Powertec has solid experience in similar projects. “In this project, we were able to combine our knowledge in waste-to-energy power plants as well as our expertise in Finnish laws and regulations,” says project manager Wolfgang Ludwig. “It was an interesting project, because the client was in a hurry, but we were able to answer all the questions the client had and assisted them with their own busy engineering work.”

Quality assurance in the environmental construction of filling stations

MAB Powertec is increasing its expertise in the handling and storage of liquid fuels. Our project managers Niko Raami and Markus Merta participated in a course on quality assurance in environmental construction at filling stations.

The construction and operation of filling stations are subject to a number of regulations and requirements – for example, in terms of environmental protection and quality assurance. Other important requirements are fire, explosion, electrical and operational safety, to name a few. The sector is particularly susceptible to change, as “the challenges for the contracting and maintenance of filling stations are constantly increasing as systems become more technical and complex,” (Finnish Petroleum and Biofuels Association).

The course focused on the legislation and standards related to filling stations, which help all parties involved in the construction of the filling station to be aware of the applicable requirements in environmental construction. The requirements include, for example, quality assurance during construction, such as soil compaction, sealing structures and tank installations, as well as keeping records for matters of environmental importance. The quality assurance report ensures that the station and the related work steps are in accordance with the requirements. Continuous measurement and monitoring ensure that the station is operating as planned and it helps in preventing possible damage. “The course included a lot of information that is useful in our projects. In addition to the filling stations themselves, the things we learned can also be widely applied to other industrial sites, where, despite some differences, the requirements are largely the same as at filling stations. The course strengthens our expertise in the field of high-quality environmental construction,” says project manager Niko Raami.

We are experts in matters related to the handling and storage of flammable liquids and hazardous chemicals in the industrial sector, and we offer e.g. studies on cost-effective solutions for fuel unloading areas, fuel storage and fire protection. In addition, our clients can rely on us for related regulatory matters, engineering, and comprehensive project services. Participating in this course is another step in strengthening our expertise in environmental issues in the industrial sector.

Explore Lounavoima's new virtual brochure!

Earlier this autumn, Markus Merta and Anna Pääkkönen spent an unusual day at Lounavoima’s waste-to-energy power plant construction site in Salo – filming an interview for the new brochure, that is. Lounavoima’s new virtual brochure is now online, as well as the interview with MAB Powertec. What has it been like working with us? The brochure includes a video that gives insight into our role as the provider of engineering and project management services, and it explores the different phases of this enormous project.
