Interested in doing more to engage your friends and neighbors?

We know that in a few months, a president will take office who has pledged violence, deportation, racial profiling, and religious persecution. These are terrifying times, and the work that must be done can seem overwhelming.

When the stakes are so high, it can feel impossible to pick your first step. But right now, as white people, we have to resist the urge to retreat. We must organize and reach people, specifically the people who we have not yet reached.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS (sometimes we call these "house meetings") are a great strategy to begin the work of organizing. These intentional, facilitated meetings provide an opening 1) to engage white people in your network in conversation about racism and white supremacy, 2) to begin to form the relationships that are needed to build real power, and 3) to put people on a path towards collective action.

Community meetings can happen anywhere -- a home, a school, a church. What's important is that people come together out of relationship and experience an invitation to a shared path in anti-racist organizing.

This two hour training will cover the logistical basics of organizing a community meeting along with some strategies for invitation and follow up. You'll workshop your meeting in a cohort with other white folks trying on anti-racist organizing with you.

We have one expectation of all attendees: Everyone must commit to organize and host at least one community meeting within two months of our training. We hope that together, we can organize 100 SURJ KC community meetings by the spring.

We'll have more detail about the agenda and logistics in the coming days. If childcare is a requirement for your attendance, please let us know. We will find a way to make it happen.
