Updates from NAMI Oregon

NAMI Oregon is offering a $500 grant to affiliates as an incentive to send trainees to our upcoming Basics instructor training June 2 & 3 and either start or expand the Basics program in your community. Any affiliate that sends two trainees who complete both days of training and become certified NAMI Basics instructors will receive a $500 grant from NAMI Oregon. The training will be led by Dr. Teri Brister who developed the Basics education program for NAMI, and will be held at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City. Please find attached the schedule and application for the training and  text for promotional materials (newsletter, social media, flyer, etc.) that might help you recruit new instructors. Space at the training is limited so encourage those interested in attending to submit their applications ASAP. Teacher trainees do not need to have taken the Basics course previously but they must be the parent or other primary caregiver for someone who started experiencing symptoms of mental illness prior to age 13. The person need not have received a diagnosis by that age. Affiliates may send more than two trainees, but the maximum grant amount given to any affiliate will be $500 regardless of the number of trainees attending. As with all state trainings, NAMI Oregon will pay for lodging and a mileage-based travel reimbursement for any trainee traveling 50 miles or farther to the training.
