Happy New Writing Year

I swept my kitchen floor at midnight on New Year's Eve.

My mother used to do that. She believed that at midnight, you opened the door and swept all your troubles away.

I'm cautiously superstitious. It's not a black cat or a ladder that I avoid but I don't pass the salt without the pepper and I won't pick up a dropped comb without stepping on it first. (Not sure where that one came from!)

Last year (2019) was the first year I didn't have a new release published since Love's Secret Fire, my debut romantic suspense, released in 2012. It was an emotionally tumultuous year for me that inhibited my writing time as well as my creativity.

Scientifically, it's a shift of control from the cerebral cortex to the instinctual processes designed to combat stress. Think fight or flight.

Studies have been conducted and techniques developed to cope with this transference of energy, if you will.

That's not what I need.

I make the same New Year's Eve resolution every year — to lose weight.

This year I resolved to refocus on my writing and complete the half-finished sequel to Loving Gia to Death.

And I swept the kitchen floor.
