Get ready for our new issue Aug. 6!

With the slowed economy and many restrictions still in place at week 20 of the COVID-19 state of emergency, we will again only publish one paper for the month of August instead of going weekly. Don't worry, there will still be plenty of fun content to gobble up - our community has gotten creative in ways to safely enjoy the Cape Region.

The most obvious is that the pandemic has inspired more people to explore coastal Delaware with their cameras in tow. Delaware Beach Life magazine invites amateur photographers to enter its 14th annual photography contest, with entries postmarked by Saturday, Aug. 1.

Carter training for 25-mile prone paddle to benefit Grove Park dock

By Dennis Forney
Gung-ho. That’s Marine Corps veteran Mark Carter’s attitude about the Grove Park canal dock project inching closer to reality in Rehoboth.

He’s been spearheading efforts, along with others in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal Improvement Association, to help raise funds for the million-dollar-plus project.

In addition to successfully bending other people’s elbows for donations, Dogfish Head’s Beer and Benevolence ambassador plans to bend his own elbows to further stoke the cash fires. But it won’t be with Dogfish 60-Minute IPAs.

Photo contest celebrates Dewey lighthouse

Dust off your photo albums and check your memory cards – a photo of the lighthouse in Dewey Beach could win two tickets to the annual Winter Gala and a stay at Hyatt Place Dewey Beach.

Harvey Hanna & Associates Vice President of Marketing Ryan Kennedy said that The Lighthouse Through the Decades photo contest celebrates the history of the lighthouse that was built in 1979.

An April arson destroyed the iconic lighthouse and adjacent restaurant, which was under construction. The structure will be rebuilt; a $25,000 reward has been offered to anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the fire.
