Welcome to The Base Line, Official Newsletter of the Woy Woy Tennis Club.

From the President

What a month it has been for our Club! We have had our ups and downs but the true spirit of the club has shone through.

We started the month with the sad closure of the Court 2 after it suffered irreversible damage at the hands of the local Corella's. Despite Court 2 being out of action, our Club continues to see record numbers taking to the courts.

Thanks to the expedient and diligent efforts of our Secretary (Ben) and with the support from Central Coast Council (dropping the football netting stopping the Corella's damage) ; our Club will see a new synthetic surface laid in the coming weeks. A time line for the works project is not yet set however it the aim to have the new surface down before the end of Day Light Savings.

Your patience during this disruption is greatly appreciated.

February also saw the announcement by  CCC of the $900,000 redevelopment of WWTC and WWFC facilities (information below), and also the start of three competitions run out of our Club. Hard & Low, Ladies Friday Comp and AC Tennis Junior Tennis Comp, which all commenced with great enthusiasm.

I am also proud to welcome aboard the world leading tennis brand, HEAD; to the WWTC family. Now with two leading brands aligning with our Club; our Members and Guests have access to a wide range of opportunities to maximise their playing experience. Jump over to our Shop section on our website and see what we can offer you.

As we race into autumn and the weather cools down, we hope your passion of tennis heats up.

See you on the court,

Tony Carey
President

Coaches Corner

2017 has started off incredible well for AC Tennis and our Student with the Australian Open motivating more kids and adults to get into tennis which is great to see.

It is great to hear that over the holiday period many of AC Tennis pupils kept playing as much as they could. There is always a constant improvement with all of the students/clients it extremely satisfying to see that our hard work is paying off.

Our Juniors Comp has kicked off with great energy and I hope to this passion for tennis flow on throughout the year.

Remember, Keep playing, keep learning but most of all; keep having fun.

See you on the courts,
Mitch

WWTC Serves Up for Mary Macs

All too often are we guilty for taking the simplest things for granted. For some, food insecurity is an everyday problem. Our Club is no stranger to the plight and reality of homelessness within our Community; which is why throughout March our Club is asking you to donate non-perishable foods. Together our Club can help those in need as we head into winter.

Our Club has been fortunate to receive wonderful support from our Community throughout the years, now we have the opportunity to give something back.

Give what you can, and what you think will help those in need. Mary Macs  a Woy Woy based care centre provides homeless persons within our community a safe place to eat, shower and wash their clothes, so if you think of something that could aid in this endeavour, send it through.

For more information and or to make a donation, see either one of our Committee Members or email the club at office@woywoytennisclub.com

WWTC Redevelopment  Giving Tick of Approval

Thanks to your support, our Club is set to see the $900,000 redevelopment project get underway. Expected to commence late this year, this redevelopment project will turn our home into one of the leading sporting facilities on the Central Coast.

This development will simplify the way we operate as a club. Enhancing the on and off court experience for our Members and Guests, this redevelopment will be a once in a life time upward shift for our club.

As we speak, our Committee in conjunction with Woy Woy Football Club are in discussions with Council to ensure that this redevelopment will reflect the growing needs of our Club and put us in a strong position to remain a key sporting facility for generations to come.

We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.

Product of the Month
BABOLAT SFX ALL COURT
An all too often forgotten aspect to a players game is their footwear. The right shoes are as vital to your success on the court as your racquet yet for most players, its something that gets neglected. The right footwear selection will not only increase your stability on the court, it will be a welcomed  treat for your body to get you through those marathon sets on court.

The SFX's main strengths are comfort and support, making it the ideal shoe for anyone who wants their feet to feel good. The wide fit, bi-density insole with PU inserts and compressor system guarantee long-lasting comfort. Active Flexion ensures a smooth foot roll while the Michelin outsole provides durability and traction.

Retailing through the WWTC Pro Shop, the SFX All Court will set you back $150 (inc GST & Postage).

Working Bee Spruces Up Club

Without the selfless support from volunteers, our Club wouldn’t run as smoothly as it does. Thank you to all those who volunteered their time on Saturday 25th and braved the wet weather conditions to participate in our Annual Working Bee. With your support, we were able to accomplish the following:

  1. Cleaned moss off court 1
  2. Re aligned the fencing on Court 4
  3. General weeding around the centre
  4. Clean out of the Committee Office
  5. Install the new Court Number Signs
  6. Remove general waste from around the facility.

A big thank you to Harvey McDougall and Harry Afshar for braving the conditions and rolling up their sleeves. For their support on the weekend, we are proud to tip the hat to them as our Members of the Month. A special thanks to Therese McLachlan for knocking up those scrumptious home made Sausage Rolls.

Whilst we didn't get everything we wanted to achieve done on the day, we sliced into the task with great enthusiasm.
