This Month's Speaker is Tina Johnson
Director of the National Black Environmental Justice Network

Please free to attend the national call, the chapter meeting or (we hope) both.

Some highlights of this month's meeting:
  • Monthly Speaker: As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, we see disproportionate numbers of Black people becoming infected and dying from the disease. Leaders in the environmental justice community know this disparity all too well, and in June the National Black Environmental Justice Network was relaunched to help communities of color address the inequities that place them in harm's way. Tina Johnson, director of NBEJN, joins us to talk about those disparities and how the network is fighting for environmental justice.
  • Lots of Action and Training Opportunities.
  • Breakout sessions:
    • New members - Intro & Strategy
    • H.R. 763 - Read the actual text together starting from the beginning, and discuss.
    • Virtual Postcards.- write them together!
Here's the full draft agenda.  Please Note - It won't be final until Friday.
The Monthly Calling Campaign
Quick and Easy Advocacy
CCL's Monthly Calling Campaign is one of the simplest and most effective ways to encourage our Members of Congress to support H.R. 763.

55 members are signed up, but only 11 have called In the past two months (to Blumenauer, Bonamici and Schrader).
Please make those calls - they make a difference! And they're quick and easy with the simple sample scripts provided. If you get the notice and the forget to call (we all do that), consider creating a calendar reminder for yourself.

First Ever Action Pledge Drive -
Full Speed Ahead!

Portland CCL’s first ever Climate Action Pledge Drive is gaining steam!
We're off to a good start with 28 members pledging 39 actions (as of Thursday 2 pm). Four members have pledged their "first climate action ever"!

Pledge now to help us reach our goal of 500 members pledging 1000 actions!

We’re not asking for money! And we’re giving away ice cream! Two Action Takers will be randomly picked to win $25 gift certificates for Ruby Jewel Ice Cream.

Pledge now to take action in October!

Send a Virtual Postcard to Congress
Participate in this easy, fun and COVID-safe grassroots action to send Virtual Postcards to Members of Congress.

CCL has initiated a campaign to collect virtual postcards with members' photos and messages in support of H.R. 763, the Energy Innovation and Climate Dividend Act. They've provided this template with samples to make it easy. Portland CCL will collect your postcards and create a slide set to send to each Member of Congress.

Send your photo and 50-ish word testimonial about why you support H.R.763 to Francine, who will assemble it for delivery to Members of Congress. Encourage your friends and family to participate!
