Join an Action Team

What lights you up?

With a goal to increase our effectiveness, we have decided to create Action Teams in our chapter. For the past few months, we've been breaking into Action Teams for the last part of our mtg, and it's gone so well that we wanted to deepen the concept and encourage people to join a team or two (or three!).

Current Action Teams
1. Membership
2. Rural Action
3. Writer's Workshop
4. Outreach
5. Tabling
6. Endorser's

We'd love to support you in finding a team to fit your passion, strengths and experience. More information on teams will be available at our next mtg, and / or you can reply to this email to sign up.

Join a Discussion Course
Change is Our Choice: Creating Climate Solutions

Towards the end of January, we will be diving into partnership with the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) by jump-starting 4-5 discussion courses based up on their discussion course on climate action. Details of the groups will be announced in January, with our intent to have multiple groups happening all around town on different evenings of the week. Details will be announced in January, but until then, the following is excerpted from the NWEI website on the course itself:

"The science has long been settled: climate change is real and it’s happening all around us right now. Our new five-session discussion course on climate action will help you take action to increase resilience and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Presented in an interactive ebook, this new discussion course experience integrates video, audio and printed content with action plans that help you roll your sleeves up and get started taking action toward a better tomorrow. - See more at: http://nwei.org/discussion-course-books/climate/"
We EXCEEDED the match!

'Women Who Will'ed $150k!

A generous and inspiring group of donors known as the Women Who Will provided a $150,000 matching grant, and another anonymous donor added $100k. Our volunteers blew the match out of the water, with generous donations totaling over $650! HUGE THANK YOU!!

Donations still being accepted...
Year-end tax-deductible donations can still be made, and will be greatly appreciated!

With a budget of just $2.5m, (in comparison to many other environmental orgs. with budgets of over $10m), Citizens' Climate Lobby and Citizens' Climate Education does a lot with a little. Your donation matters!

Most members of Congress do not go to Washington with the intention of being a champion for climate change solutions. So, how then do we turn them into one? RESULTS founder Sam Daley-Harris and CCL Senior Congressional Liaison Jay Butera joined our December call to walk us through the process of moving members of Congress up the ladder of leadership on climate change.

Sam is currently the CEO and Founder of the Center for Citizen Empowerment and Transformation and author of “Reclaiming Our Democracy.”

Jay was instrumental in the founding of the bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus and is featured in Season Two of National Geographic’s documentary series on climate change, “Years of Living Dangerously.

Meeting Details

I continue to be inspired by those of you who come to meetings - whether you're new or a seasoned CCL volunteer, I LOVE being in your presence, hearing your ideas, and getting to work together to put ideas into action. VERY exciting to see 31 of you at our meeting this month, I'm eager to see you again in January, either or both at our Years' Viewing on Jan 5th, or at our monthly mtg on Jan. 14 (always second Saturday!). Bring your friends, your family, a random off the street...ALL are welcome!

If you weren't able to join us, or you want a reminder or more details...

We mostly followed our
very detailed agenda, including working on these
 (mostly detailed above)...national actions

AND

We had more new/er members join us than returning volunteers!

AND in celebrating our actions over the past month, we celebrate and appreciate the following people and the climate actions they took...!

  • Daniela discovered the “What Now” event, tabled and recruited 3 people who attended today’s meeting. Also she had meetings with the Zidell organization about us.
  • Kathy went to a Climate Solutions Dinner wearing her CCL badge, and was able to give out her CCL cards to people from 350.org who are not as comfortable with some of 350’s direct action approaches, & who expressed interest in finding something different, like CCL!
  • Kathy is also now on the steering committee for the business climate leader’s organization. She believes that business & military groups will have the best paths to getting something
  • Sheri met Earl Blumenaeur commented to Earl about CCL
  • Kirsten’s neighbors who have been skeptical about CCL may now join, after the election; she also invited several to join Watch Parties, and reached out to Columbia Sportswear again. She also connected again (coffee meeting) with Bonamici’s district
  • Walt shared that Jules Bailey, Multnomah County Commissioner, will now endorse CF&D
  • Ben reached out to people inviting them to watch Years of Living Dangerously
  • Barry joined meetings of World Affairs Council, inviting folks to watch party. Anyone know Rob Cramer? Treasurer for Oregon GOP; Barry wants contact info to reach out to this guy.
  • Margaret called people inviting them to Watch Party, one Sierra Club member expressed interest in CCL’s approach
  • Heather has developed relationship with editor of Clackamas paper; he will accept an Op-Ed from her
  • Gary was in Merkley’s office all day interviewing high school seniors for military academies; he also dropped lots of hints to his office about CCL.
Let Us Listen

Are you a member of a
environmental or social justice organization?

Are you or your friends or co-members worried about the impact of Fee & Dividend on lower incomes or minorities?

If carbon were to be priced, would you prefer that revenue be invested in social justice or energy efficiency programs rather than returned directly as a dividend?

We are interested in hearing your concerns and your perspective on where to go and what to do considering the latest political developments.
Please contact us to set up a time to meet. We are eager to listen...
