Humans of IT

Sajeeb Lohani, Bachelor of Software Engineering

Sajeeb Lohani, Bachelor of Software Engineering

I decided to experience everything that university could offer, so I volunteered as a student rep from first year, kept in close contact with lecturers and also participated in CySCA (Cyber Security Challenge Australia). This whetted my appetite for cyber security, and I was lucky to get a summer internship with AusPost's penetration testing team at the end of 2nd year. I took this opportunity with open arms and used it to network and learn from some of the best in the industry.

An exciting highlight was attending ACSC (Australian Cyber Security Conference) hosted by the Department of Defence). It was great fun working with the Commonwealth Bank and Symantec hacking teams. This provided me with the impetus to establish the Monash Cyber Security Club, to share knowledge in this area. I am currently enjoying my IBL placement with PwC and have found out how important it is to learn from others. Being receptive to learning creates many opportunities and shows you have the eagerness to grow.

We Did It!

  • Our IT Careers event was very successful with over 400 students chatting to 28 employers and alumni about career options, and listening to industry reps sharing their knowledge in the Seminar Series.
  • We invited several successful Australian indie game developers to our Game Development Panel night, to share their experiences about being part of a small, but important sector of the IT industry.
  • It was exciting to see the Facebook team chat to a packed lecture theatre about Production Engineering, Internship and Graduate opportunities.

Cybersecurity: It’s All About the Coders | Dan Cornell | TEDxSanAntonio
Cyber Security: It's all about the coders (6 minutes video)
With the ever increasing numbers of cyber security breaches every year, system developers "need to fundamentally rethink the coding process to include an explicit focus on the privacy and security aspects of their code rather than simply regarding it as an afterthought."

Ask Ghina

Q. Hi Ghina, assignments are starting to pile up and I seem to always be busy. Send help pls.

A. Be alert, not alarmed. Stress less, organise more. Uni is all about figuring out what works best for you, and what makes you work best. Make full use of our time management tips, and maybe head over to the Overcoming Procrastination workshop at the Caulfield campus. One more thing worth noting: if you're ever working late on campus, make sure you're familiar with all the security services the university offers. Safety first!

P.S. Ghina > Terence, so yeah. Ask Ghina is a thing now. Go ahead and send me your questions, and I'll do my best to share my legendary wisdom with you!Ask Terence a question
