Emily Dao - First year student, Bachelor of Computer Science
In my first semester of Uni, I have to admit, it was very challenging for me. Due to the fact that in high school I was very focused on the humanities area and did not take STEMM subjects, the steep learning curve made me feel as though I would never catch up with the maths and programming. So I came up with strategies to tackle my challenges and decided to delay my subject on Continuous Mathematics for Computer Science. I needed to give myself space to just breathe and adapt as a first year Uni student and at the same time focus on strengthening what I am good at. That way next year, I will be ready with full confidence to continue my maths subject again.
This semester has already gotten off to a great start. I have been able to find my footing with my study and uni life. Leading and organising the R U OK? event for FIT at Clayton was great fun. It's amazing how many inspiring individuals there are in Uni; whether it's academics, administrative staff or my friends. They have given me the motivation to stretch myself and improve my learning skills.
