Who will be our future leaders and changemakers?
Join us at Center for Youth Development through Law (CYDL) in building an inclusive and equitable future.  Amidst a challenging and divisive political atmosphere, you can help us nurture and empower youth from under-resourced backgrounds to be the leaders and changemakers we need.
More than 92% of our program participants go on to attend higher education, and many use our program as a springboard to activities in which they serve the public interest and make an impact on issues they care about.
Veronica is a 2013 alum from Richmond High School.

"Financial difficulties along with my undocumented status weighed me down during my childhood… but my time in the Summer Legal Fellowship Program will stay with me for the rest of my life.  My ability to conduct myself professionally as well as to successfully make connections can all be traced back to the program.
I now work for the American Civil Liberties Union on issues I'm passionate about – reproductive rights and criminal justice reform."
Marchon, a 2003 alum, graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland.

This program helped me open my eyes to the importance of being active in your community… and doing anything you can to create positive social change.”  After earning his Bachelor’s degree in political science, he spent several years combating homelessness at Building Futures with Women and Children, and he is now preparing to run for a seat on the Oakland City Council!
Tatiana, a 2007 alumna from Oakland Tech High School, now works as a Restorative Justice Coordinator at her own high school!

"Without my participation in the summer program, there is no way I could have made it to where I am today.  The program served as a huge stepping stone for me to be in a place of success, and giving back to my community. Thank you so much!”  Tatiana gives back to the program every year as our Restorative Justice and Communication Skills instructor.
These inspiring alumni are some of the many alumni who return to help teach and mentor our new students year after year.
CYDL’s programs immerse students in environments that would otherwise seem inaccessible: classes and activities on the UC Berkeley campus and internships in law, government and social justice offices.  Our individualized support, emotional and social learning curriculum, and ongoing mentoring enable the youth to be successful in these environments and beyond.  Through our program, the students also engage deeply with social and political issues that are relevant to their lives.
