Message from across the Tasman!

The Aussies are ready and super-excited to be heading across the Tasman to compete against our New Zealand friends at the Trans Tasman Tournament in Hamilton in just 21 days.

Last week many of the Australian athletes were presented with their uniforms with the NSW delegation partying up a storm in celebration of their selection to this amazing event between Australia and New Zealand, which is now in its third year.

Soey the Joey, the official mascot of Special Olympics Australia was a huge hit, as was the dancing. We only hope our Aussie team have conserved some energy for the competition in New Zealand! Special Olympics Australia wishes all competitors at the Trans Tasman Tournament the very best of success and we look forward to sharing wonderful stories from the event. TTT Sports Programme

Our Sports Programme will soon be available to download from our website, an email will be sent once it has been uploaded.
 
Copies of the Programme will also be included in the team packs on arrival at check in at The Distinction Hotel on Thursday.
 
Copies of the Programme for Day One for both sports will also be available on our website from 7th November, teams copies will be included in their packs at check in.

 

Team Managers Meeting

Reminder that the Team Managers meeting will be held at The Distinction Hotel on Thursday 24 November at 8.00pm. 
 
A member of team management from each Club/State should be present to ensure that everyone as the latest generic information around the Tournament, i.e. transport/lunches/ceremonies/medical/etc.
 
This is for Team Management only, no athletes should be in attendance.
 
It should also be noted that sports specific questions will not be answered at this meeting, this information will be conveyed directly to the coaches at their first Head Coaches meeting, (as per the programme).

 

Opening & Closing Ceremonies

There will be two Opening Ceremonies: one at Waterworld at 9.00am on Friday and a second at Porritt Stadium at 10.30 am. These will be both be officially opened by our Chairman, Ian McKelvie.

There will be one Closing Ceremony at 3.15 pm at Waterworld, this will be a non-ticketed event. Please note that a credential must be shown to enter the venue, otherwise you will be charged the $2 entry fee at the swimming pool. This will work on a first come first served basis, all athletes will be prioritized for seating, followed by families. We have a max capacity of 950 seats. Our CEO Kathy Gibson will officially close the Tournament.

Disco

The disco will take place at 7pm on Sunday evening at the Distinction Hotel. Please send your song requests for the disco to Jocelyn by 9am on Monday 21 November. There will be a u/v light, so encourage your team members to wear a bit of white.

Catering

Lunches
These are included in team registrations and will be delivered to the sports venues.
On Sunday packed lunches will be delivered to Waterworld for all team members, including athletics teams who will be supporting their swimming teams. If you are not planning to be at Waterworld to collect your lunch, please let Jocelyn know the numbers so she can adjust the catering order.

Breakfasts and dinners
For teams who are registered at Live In, all breakfasts and dinners are provided (including dinner on Thursday and breakfast on Monday). If your team is leaving before Monday morning, Jocelyn has a note of this and will let your accommodation provider know.

Snacks
Teams will have to provide their own snacks. Please be aware of this in your planning. There is a vending machine and a café on-site at Waterworld, and there will be a coffee cart at Porritt Stadium.

Accommodation check-in

College Hall - On arrival, report to the information desk to collect the electronic keys and building access cards for your team.  The building card allows you access to your Block, Level and the laundry.

Distinction Hotel: Report to reception where you will be issued with key cards for your team.
 

Laundry facilities

College Hall - Washing machines and driers cost $1 each.  There is no charge for the use of the irons.

Distinction Hotel - There are two guest laundries; they are coin operated. They take $4 each for the washing machine and dryer and $2 for the washing powder.  Washing machine and dryer take $1 & $2 coins but the powder only takes $2 coins. Change is available at reception if needed.

Have you purchased your merchandise?

There is still time to order your merchandise - orders close 5pm Friday 4 November.

Merchandise will be available for collection on registration at The Distinction Hotel from 24 November.

You can also purchase merchandise at the Tournament from The Distinction  Hotel foyer, a daily stall will be open over the following times: 

Thursday 24th November: 2:00pm-8:30pm
Friday 25th November: 7:30am-12:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm
Saturday 26th November: 7:30am-9:30am & 6:00pm-8:00pm
Sunday 27th November: 7:30am-11:00am & 6:00pm-9:30pm
Monday 28th November: 7:30am-9:00am

A mobile van will also travel to athletics on Friday 25th November from 12-3.30pm

Trans Tasman 2012
Registration and collection of shirts

Volunteers: All volunteers will be able to pick up their volunteer pack on one of our two volunteer training sessions. This will include their handbook and a t-shirt.

Officials: Official shirts for the event will be available for collection from The Distinction Hotel on Thursday 24th November during registration. Those officials that can't collect their shirts at this time must collect them from the sporting venues the following day.

Global Messengers: All Global Messenger Shirts will be clearly labelled and put into your Team/State Team Pack for collection by your team manager at registration on Thursday 24th November.

Banner Competition!

Don't forget our banner competition! We can't wait to see your creations!

We will have a panel of judges who will check out all the banners on display over the course of the tournament, three prizes will be awarded to those entries that show their chosen sport and their team spirit the best! Maximum size should be 2 metres.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

We will have up to 70 police officers from New Zealand and Australia supporting the tournament. Many of them will be staying on-site at College Hall, so those teams staying there could end up sharing a table over breakfast!
Wireless Internet
 
College Hall has Lightwire. You need to sign in to purchase prepaid via the lightwire website
Distinction Hotel provides complimentary wifi for all in house guests. Please contact reception for an access code.
Parking
 
College Hall - All parking on campus is paid parking. The closest paid general parking is available off Silverdale Rd, in Gate 3B or Gate A. A machine in the park allows you to purchase and display your parking ticket. Costs for parking are $2 a day or $6.00 for the week.

To avoid being clamped and the extra cost to have the clamps removed ($50 for general and $100 for reserved) make sure to display your ticket where it can be seen easily.

Distinction Hotel - There is ample parking at the Distinction Hotel.
 

Transport

Teams who are arriving by air will need to organise their own connection from the airport to their accommodation.

Bus departure times for teams staying at College Hall will be posted on the wall in the Dining Hall foyer.
As there is no athletics competition on Sunday, buses will take teams from College Hall to Waterworld so they can support their swimmers. They will then take teams back to College Hall for dinner, and to the Distinction Hotel for the disco.

Families

All families have now been registered for the event and need to register upon arrival at The Distinction Hotel between 2.00pm - 8.00pm on Thursday 24th November or on Friday 25th November in the morning  to receive their credentials/welcome pack. Credentials are imperative for everyone before attending any part of the tournament and must be worn at all times please.
