NCL Livermore: Welcome to NCL!

NOTES FROM THE BOARD

As I look back at the close of our first year-I see many great things! What an exciting year it was! I would like to thank all our returning Patronesses and Ticktockers for the many hours of hard work and a big welcome to our new members. I am very proud of all of the amazing and confident women of this chapter. It is my hope, that we will stretch ourselves to be strong leaders and hardworking volunteers. This year, I am putting a challenge out to our Patronesses and Ticktockers.
I would like to see our members take on a leadership role they never thought possible. Volunteer for a job that is less desirable. Sit and talk with a member that you do not know. Patronesses, we need be the role models our daughters deserve. Ticktockers, you need to be the standard for which all young girls. I hope you will help me in making this be a GREAT second year!

Warmest Regards,
Debra Morris

I wanted to welcome each and everyone one of you to the Livermore Chapter of NCL. I will be your contact person for any questions or concerns you may have over the next year.  It is my job to help make your experience positive.  Please let me know of any way I can make that happen for you or your daughter.
I have met some of you at the NCL (or at trader joe's...good to meet you Carol) just this past Tuesday but for those of you who don't know me here are a few facts.
I have one daughter in the NCL Chapter, her name is Tori and she is a freshman at LHS.  She currently is the president for the 9th grade but not sure if that will be changing with the new year (see it is ok that you don't know everything at the beginning or even the middle...lol).  Tori's main focus other than school and friends is her passion for soccer.  She plays at the premier level with West Coast Soccer Club.  I work part time at my psychotherapy office in Dublin where I treat adolescents, couples and individuals.  We have lived in Livermore for almost 10 years and absolutely love it. I am married and have been for 17 years and I have another daughter who will become a member next year at the 6th grade level.
At some point this summer I would like to have a small get together with all the new members to connect and talk about your experience.  I will throw out some dates once school get out and my life becomes even crazier.
Until then, keep cool.

Incoming VP of Provisional

Website Tips
1.) Logging Mother/Daughter Hours:  When you AND your daughter(s) have volunteered together for one of our approved philanthropies, please have the mother log her hours and click the "Mother/Daughter" designation.  Have your daughter also log her hours but DO NOT have her click the "Mother/Daughter" designation.

2.) Update your's and your daughter's profile with the correct phone numbers and birth dates. Click "Profile" in the navy blue band across the top, then click on "Edit Profile" (above your picture). Click on the little grey triangles to open the different sections. Adding phone numbers is under Contact Information and adding birthdates in under Statistical Information.
Be SURE to hit Submit at the bottom of the page when you are done.

I'll try to answer some common questions in each newsletter.  If you are having trouble with anything else website related, please don't hesitate to call me.

Have a great summer!

Walk for Arthritis

This year we filled 30 volunteer positions at the Arthritis Walk!  Our moms and daughters started at 6:00 a.m., setting up tables, chairs, and signs, cooking hot dogs and handing out refreshments, and performing many other jobs throughout the whole event.   Thanks to all our Patronesses and Ticktockers who helped make the day a success, especially our newest members who were earning their first philanthropy hours with NCL.   We’ll see you again next year!

The Arthritis Walk organizers really appreciated our help…

“Thank you and the other moms and daughters of the National Charity League for your generous donation of time and energy at the May 14 Walk to Cure Arthritis in Livermore. Your team jumped right in and handled all the tasks at hand. It looked like a group of veteran volunteers at the helm of the refreshment center. It's with the gracious efforts of people from your organization and the other volunteers that make events so successful.   We could not have had such a great event without your hard work. It would be a great honor for the Arthritis Foundation to have your group as a partner for next year's walk and potentially other events. I would be happy to meet with you or the group to talk about how we can work together for an even bigger and more successful 2017 Tri-Valley Walk to Cure Arthritis.
Thanks so much,
Joyce Bustinduy
Chair, 2016 Tri-Valley Walk to Cure Arthritis
Chair, Northern California Arthritis Foundation Leadership Board”

Ticktocker News

I hope this finds you ready to enjoy a restful summer break! As your new VP of Ticktockers, I'm looking forward to a restful but productive summer as we prepare for our 2016-2017 NCL year. Working closely with my Grade Level Advisors, we will be using our 6 Year Plan for training and creating meaningful experiences for our Ticktockers this year. I'm so excited to be working more closely with the girls and know we will have a successful year!

The class of 2019 meet at Arroyo Seco library on Sunday May 16th 3-5pm
Our project this month was to get ourselves prepared for the Livermore Parade that we will be participating in on June 10th.  We made posters and talked about all of the organizations we were participating in this year.  We had cookies and waters for our delicious food. Our next meeting will be in September.

 Quotes

I love quotes - funny, inspirational, motivational, thoughtful. They make me think, smile, or laugh.  Walt Disney has a wide variety of quotes and I began to think how they tie into NCL, so I wanted to share.

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. -Walt Disney
Have you thought about how much time you are going to devote to philanthropy this summer?  Make a point to look at the calendar each week to see if there are opportunities that work for you.

If you can dream it, you can do it. -Walt Disney
What do you want to accomplish with NCL?  Have you looked at the 6 year plan?  Think about what you can contribute to your Ticktocker sisters this year.

When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. -Walt Disney
The more you put into your NCL experience, the more you will get out of it. Try different philanthropies….you never know what you are going to get out of an experience unless you go.  You might meet a new friend or find a new interest

Finally,
Laughter is America's most important export. -Walt Disney
Surround yourself with people that are happy and kind and giving. Laugh out loud every day. It makes you feel good and it’s contagious.
Michele Perry
Former VP of Ticktockers
