CMS Ramping Up Price Transparency Compliance Efforts

Over the last few weeks, we've seen a significant uptick in CMS enforcement letters sent out to hospitals.
In almost every case, the hospital relied on a vendor (not us!) to just publish a modified chargemaster to meet compliance... wrong.
Here's an example of a CMS non-compliance letter, sent via Certified Mail:
The law is very clear that for packaged services (e.g., outpatient surgeries), all items and services that typically accompany the primary service must be included in the 5 required charges in the machine-readable file AND the consumer-friendly application:
Expect to see more letters like this, especially as patients rights advocacy groups, such as Susan Sarandon's "Power to the Patients" turn up the pressure.
