With the approval of MEP Pieper’s Report on the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) last week, the European Parliament has yet again clarified its vision for buildings in the EU: an NZEB building stock by 2050.  This echoes the call that 23 MEPs made to Commissioner Canete in a recent letter to include a long-term vision for the building stock in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). It also strengthens MEP Griffin’s claim made at the recent Renovate Europe Breakfast event that “Energy Renovation is an opportunity to reconnect with citizens
Reaching out to citizens in Member States will be crucial ahead of the Energy Efficiency Package expected in the autumn, and Renovate Europe is delighted to welcome another National Supporting Partner: the National Renovation Platform in the Netherlands. The Campaign is pleased to be able to translate the Renovate Europe message down to the national level in 13 Member States and to count on consolidated support with the launch of Renovate
España and Renovate Italy
Renovate Europe Day 2016 will take place on 13th October and will  focus on how an NZEB Building Stock by 2050 can boost EU jobs, growth and SMEs. It will also include an afternoon site visit of renovation projects in Brussels. Save the Date and look out for your invitation soon!

At the Renovate Europe breakfast briefing on 15th June, MEP Theresa Griffin (S&D, UK) spoke forcibly about the need to address the principle root cause for energy poverty. “Energy Renovation is an opportunity to create a synergy between energy policy, social policy and industrial policy across the EU, and to reconnect with citizens she said.

“Energy renovation must be at the heart of the Energy Union,” explained Adrian Joyce, Director of the Renovate Europe Campaign, “Buildings are central to our lives, to our health and to our productivity  – citizens deserve quality buildings to live, learn and work in”.

Renovate Europe is pleased to welcome the National Renovation Platform (NRP) as the National Supporting Partner for the Netherlands. Renovate Europe now has National Supporting Partners active in 13 Member States

Professionals and those interested in energy efficiency in buildings from government, industry, NGOs, think-tanks, financial institutions, etc. from across CEE region were all in one place to exchange experiences and to learn from each other.

Several companies and associations have come together as Renovate Italy, and have led successful campaigns on the ground.
In the recent Milan municipal elections, Renovate Italy obtained signatories for their Manifesto to STOP Energy Waste in buildings from the two candidates for mayor and from several future city counselors.

MEPs from 13 countries and 4 political groups sent a letter to Commissioner Cañete calling for a transformation of the building stock in the EU into ‘nearly zero energy buildings’ by 2050“We in the European Parliament call on you to ensure that the revised EPBD proposal includes a clear renovation vision for the existing building stock to bring it to NZEB levels by 2050” said the 23 signatory MEPs.

The most important EU legislation on the energy efficiency of buildings is under review and revisions will be proposed this autumn with the adoption of the Energy Efficiency Package.

The GABC was launched at the Buildings Day at COP21 in December, which Adrian Joyce attended as a speaker. Renovate Europe invited the Coordinator of the GABC to Brussels on 17th May for a Special Session with invited guests focused on “Follow-up to Buildings Day at COP21”.
