Last night's fire at The Arches on Childers Street next to Folkestone Gardens took 12 fire engines and 80 fire fighters to control. All residents were evacuated safely. Huge thanks to the emergency services, for a quick response and for keeping everyone safe.
Big thanks to the Evelyn Community Centre who, for the second time in less than a month, opened their doors to provide shelter to residents evacuated from fire.
Some residents have been able to return to adjacent properties. Others must wait until the structure is inspected before they can re-enter their homes. Some families will have lost their homes and belongings. They are in need.
Leaders of the 2nd Deptford Scouts group based opposite the building have organised a fund raising page to support affected residents. If you are able you can donate HERE.
Scout Leaders are accepting donations for affected families tonight (May 21st) at the Scout Hall on Childers Street from 8pm-9pm. If you have phone chargers, food, clean clothing please drop it in. There will be more collections in the future if necessary with requests for more specific items.
