Antonio Marchesini

Today we learned that the hit-and-run driver who killed a Antonio Marchesini on Childers Street/Rolt Street in 2018 has been jailed for eight years.

Antonio was a local resident and Festa Sul Prato regular. DeptfordFolk planted a "Kentucky Coffee Tree" for Evelyn200 in his memory.

Antonio was one of two cyclist fatalities in the Evelyn Ward in 2018. 20% of London's 2018 cycling fatalities were in Lewisham's Evelyn ward. (Another was Peter Harris on Bestwood Street). It doesn’t have to be this way.

Antonio volunteered his free time to make cycling safer for everyone. DeptfordFolk is committed to make our streets safer for walking and cycling. Most people in this area do not own a car (Car ownership in Evelyn was under 40% in 2011). Over 25% of Evelyn residents are children.

May Antonio Rest In Peace

Rotherhithe Movement Plan
Please Respond

Southwark Council are consulting on their Rotherhithe Movement Plan. It will include making streets in Southwark safer and healthier for Southwark residents. Sustainable anctive travel will be easier for Southwark residents.
It's bad news for Residents just south of the area in Lewisham. Here's why:

Bestwood Street becomes Two-Way

This will increase the rat-run on Trundleys Road which is a residential street.

More traffic will pass Sir Francis Drake Primary School. Air quality and street safety will deteriorate.

The unsafe crossing at Lidl will get worse as the island will be removed. There are already crash barriers along Trundleys Road. Traffic modelling shows increased traffic at this junction.

A Controlled Parking Zone in Rotherhithe will displace contractor and commuter parking to Evelyn where parking is free.

Please respond to the Rotherhithe Movement Plan and ask that efforts are made to include streets bordering the Rotherhithe Movement Plan area are considered as part of the scheme in pertnership with Lewisham Council.

Southwark Council have developed a Rotherhithe Movement Plan to deal with Cycleway 4 and 3,500 homes at Canada Water.

Why has Lewisham not made a plan North Deptford when Cycleway 4 and 10,000 homes are planned here?
