We’re back!

Covid-19 put a temporary halt to our monthly Second Sunday Cycle Repair sessions. This weekend on Sunday July 12th we will start again. Thanks to everyone who has been in touch to let us know how much this service is valued.

There will be some changes to how the session will run. Please keep a safe distance and follow the instructions of our volunteers. More info HERE. Please wear a mask and keep a safe distance from volunteers and those outside your group. We will be operating a queueing system. See you on Sunday!

Scawen Road & DPLN

Towards the end of 2019 Lewisham Council consulted on our DPLN project. Unfortunatley Covid-19 has meant delays in the project. In the meantime the first part of the project, Scawen Road, has been implemented. Filtering the road in front of Sir Francis Drake School means an end to illegal parking outside the school and a safer school route for children.

Copenhagen style continous crossings at Hicks Street, Crooke Road, Kezia Street and Etta Street have been installed which make the routes along pavements easier and more accessible.

Trundleys Road

There is more to be done! Trundleys Road continues to be a dangerous Rat Run made worse by the new scrap yard at the top of Folkestone Gardens. The Rotherhithe Movement Plan will make this road worse. We have raised this again with Lewisham Council after a series of recent collisions

Healthy Streets Scorecard

It was Disappointing to see Lewisham ranked worst performing inner London Borough on the 2020 Healthy Streets Scorecard. There's a lot of work to do! What do you think would make our streets healthier, safer and more pleasant?

Add your comments to the council's commonplace map HERE.

Park Cafe Hoenle

The Café in Folkestone Gardens has been rebranded as Park Café Hoenle. Still the same lovely people making good quality food to take away. Plenty of outdoor seating where you can relax and enjoy the park. Big thanks to the cafe team for putting things in place and staying open over the last few months. A great independent local business.

Repair your wheels anytime!

Next to the cafe in Folkestone Gardens is the very well used bike stand with tools. The increase in cycling locally has made this a very popular facility. If you don't have space at home to repair your bike stop by here for a tune-up.

Mayoresses of Lewisham

We were absolutely delighted to learn this week that Natasha Ricketts, Dawn Atkinson & Christina Norman will be the Mayor of Lewisham’s Mayoresses for the next 6 months. This ceremonial role helps highlight a specific issue. Natasha, Dawn & Christine run the Evelyn Supermarket along with other amazing volunteers. Low income households pay to use the supermarket

These incredible women have so much to contribute to the discussion about food poverty, supporting people and community collaboration. We can’t think of anyone more suitable to rock some Mayoral Bling! Read more HERE.
The next Second Sunday Cycle Repair session is on Sunday July 12th, 10am - 2pm at the Scout Hall on Childers Street. If you have questions or need tips check out Lewisham Cyclists on Facebook.
