Mayor of Lewisham Visit

On Friday March 1st Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham came to visit organisations in the Evelyn Ward. Some of the DeptfordFolk committee met him to do a walking tour of Deptford Park, Folkestone Gardens and the surrounding streets. Chairs of Governors from both Deptford Park School and Sir Francis Drake School joined us as did Ward Councillor Caroline Kalu.
We discussed the positive changes to the parks over the last few years and how DeptfordFolk hope to achieve the remainder of our 2016 Park Priorities. A full update on progress is available in our 2018/2019 Annual Report. We discussed DPLN, Evelyn 200 (And 400!), Second Sunday Cycle Repair, Playgrounds and planning.
DeptfordFolk asked the Mayor for his support to achieve our park priorities. We were also assured of his ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing publicly accessible green space in the area as we welcome the residents of 10,000+ new homes to our green spaces over the coming years.

Evelyn200

Evelyn200 is a response to concerns about air quality and low tree numbers raised during the 2016/2017 park user survey. To celebrate 200 years since the publication of John Evelyn's diaries in 1818 DeptfordFolk are planting 200 trees in the Evelyn Ward in 2018. (2017/2018 & 2018/2019 planting seasons). To date, we have planted 137.
Save the Date!: The last Evelyn200 tree planting session will be on Saturday April 13th. More details coming soon. Your chance to plant a tree. All welcome.

Evelyn400

John Evelyn, FRS (31 October 1620 – 27 February 1706) was an English writer, gardener and founder of the Royal Society. He lived in Deptford at Sayes Court Manor. He is most famous for his diary written around the same time as the diary of Samuel Pepys. John Evelyn also wrote about Trees (Sylva), London Air Pollution (Fumifugium) and Healthy Eating (Acetaria). Incredibly, Deptford is still looking at ways to address these challenges today.
In 2020 it will be 400 years since John Evelyn's birth. Let's celebrate! Evelyn400 in 2020 is good reason to run a range of activities to improve our environment and health through a range of activities. Get in touch now if you want to get involved.

Planning Update & Convoys Wharf

In addition to 10 Planning Updates in the previous DeptfordFolk mailout we now have an update on Neptune Wharf on Grinstead Road. The land has now been decontaminated and cleared.
The council, developer and Network Rail are currently negotiating final access to the site. Neptune Wharf is an important development for DPLN. Thankfully, canal approach has been safeguarded as a planning condition. A safe crossing across Grinstead Road to Sir Francis Drake School is planned as part of DPLN.

Convoy's Wharf Plot 15

This is the building on the other side of the wall from Dacca Street on the Sayes Court Estate. The information will, at some point, go on their website. But if you simply can't wait photos HERE!
