Stay Safe, Stay Well, Stay Healthy

Last night Deptford gave a heartfelt, rousing cheer to NHS workers on the frontline of the Covid-19 crisis. Big thank you to everyone recognising we all have a part to play whether it's on the frontline, volunteering to support vulnerable residents or staying at home.

The UK Government has published guidance on what everyone needs to do during the Covid-19 pandemic. Parks are still open for everyone to enjoy. Please stay at least 2 metres from people outside your household group to ensure parks remain safe and open.

Playgrounds, skateparks and outdoor gyms are CLOSED for public health reasons. Please help the parks team by respecting this.

We need our free, publicly accessible parks more than ever. Many people are commenting on the cleaner air, birdsong, and quieter streets since the restrictions on air travel and advice to stay home.

Enjoy local parks as they spring to life. We've listed a few activities you can do locally if you decide to go out for a walk or cycle.

Stay safe everyone!
Watch birds, spot butterflies, see the International Space Station as it passes overhead (until April 5th).
Benches in Deptford Park
Check out the DeptfordFolk 'Deep Seated History' project in Deptford Park. Last year we brought 30+ new benches to Deptford Park. Each bench has plaque with a snippet of history about women & men of Deptford from yesteryear who overcame adversity and achieved great things.
Evelyn's Roots Audio Trail
In 2018 we worked with local storyteller Bernadette Russell and TeatroVivo to bring street theatre to Deptford. Evelyn’s Roots blends fact and fiction to bring the remarkable story of Deptford's streets to life. The short walking trail is available as a FREE audio download HERE!
In 2018 DeptfordFolk planted 200 trees in the Evelyn Ward to celebrate 200 years since the publication of John Evelyn's diaries. Our friends at TiCL me have mapped these HERE! Many of the trees were planted by children from our local schools and at community events. Check them out!
Evelyn Community Store
Food Donations Needed
The amazing team of volunteers at the Evelyn Community Store are continuing to support some of the neighbourhood's most vulnerable residents through this difficult time. They are short of the following food items. Please donate if you can.

Where: Evelyn Community Centre SE8 5TQ
When: Mondays & Tuesdays 9am - 3pm
What: Donations of pasta, baked beans, rice, soup, tinned vegetables, cereals, biscuits, tinned fruit and any other non perishables gratefully accepted.
Rainbows & Playgrounds
At this time children are being asked to make huge sacrifices. Their education, freedom, play and friendships are all curtailed. Lovely to see their rainbows displayed in windows around the area. After Covid-19 children’s right to play should be reinforced through investment in playgrounds and child friendly streets. Children have waited long enough.
Folkestone Gardens Playground
Playgrounds are closed until further notice due to Covid-19. DeptfordFolk will be continuing the campaign for a new playground in Folkestone Gardens. We requested "Play" to be a ward priority at the recent Evelyn Assembly. It's time to invest in play opportunities for all ages.

"If we can build a successful city for children, we will have a successful city for all people" -  Enrique Peñelosa

Sadly our Second Sunday Cycle Repair. workshops are suspended until further notice. You can still get out and about on your bikes. If you have questions or need tips check out Lewisham Cyclists on Facebook.
