Welcome in 2017!

2016 has been a rough year in many ways, with losses and challenges, but we have somehow gotten through it. 2017 can only be better, right? So I’ve got some great books to escape into.

Let’s look at which books made it to the top five bestsellers in Oxford for 2016. Needless to say if you haven’t read them, they make a great book list for 2017.

New This Month In Hardcover

Hy Conrad continues his traveling murder mystery series with DEATH ON THE PATAGONIAN EXPRESS ($25.00) with some smart sleuthing. Alyssa Maxwell takes us to post WWI Britain with A PINCH OF POISON ($25.00) as Lady Renshaw and her maid uncover the clues. Elizabeth Buzzelli continues her Little Library series with SHE STOPPED FOR DEATH ($25.99). The Library starts receiving poetry from a reclusive poet. Salem serves as a mysterious seductive location in Brunonia Barry’s THE FIFTH PETAL ($27.00). Then, exceptional writing of Rennie Airth keeps us riveted to the end of the fifth John Madden mystery THE DEATH OF KINGS ($27.00) as Inspector Madden takes on a cold case for Scotland Yard.

Paperback Finds This Month

Sally Solari may not be happy managing her father’s old-style Italian restaurant in Santa Cruz, but she can’t resist solving the murder of her aunt in DYING FOR A TASTE ($15.99) by Leslie Karst. The best of Peter Lovesey’s short stories are compiled in MOTIVES FOR MURDER ($19.99). TWO DAYS GONE ($15.99) by Randall Silvis left a deep impression on me. The location deep in the woods in Pennsylvania was fascinating and the tension and suspense never falters as a college professor is accused by, and then flees from police after a book he is writing is used as a blueprint for a murder. A Faith Hunter Scrapbook mystery by Chris Freeburn is always fun. Aurora Anderson deals with a homeless case in PALETTE FOR MURDER ($15.99) by Sybil Johnson. The newest is MASKED FOR DEATH ($15.99). It is Fiesta Week and Aggie Mundeen is on the spot in Nancy G.West’s mystery RIVER CITY GONE ($15.99).

You are never far away from adventure in Steve Barry’s historical Cotton Malone mysteries in THE 14TH COLONY ($9.99); Cotton takes readers on a race from frozen plains of Russia to the center of the White House. Vivian, a London milliner, is off to Paris in ASSAULT AND BERET ($7.99) by Jenn McKinlay. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is opening and a chocolatier is found dead in FUDGE AND JURY ($7.99) by Ellie Alexander. Emma Raines can talk to ghosts and when her high-school nemesis dies, she can’t wait to chat in A GHOSTLY REUNION ($7.99) by Tonya Kappes. Faith Fairchild joins her friend Sophie in Savannah and finds A BODY IN THE WARDROBE ($7.99). Then, Maine is the setting for Barbara Ross’ Maine Clambake mystery ICED UNDER ($7.99). A mysterious package arrives, and a case of murder.
