Ways to be involved in Summit 2020

Pray! There is much work to do. It is going to take a larger staff, a huge network, a great marketing effort, and lots of cooperation and coordination. God’s guidance in all of those things is essential!  Put September 17-18, 2020 on your calendar, and begin praying for that important week now.

Give:  Each remote site will shoulder a portion of the cost of hosting the conference. Additionally each site may need a financial sponsor. More details will be coming as the remote site qualifications are finalized.

Go: Plan now to attend at Shades Mountain Baptist Church or the remote site closest to you. If one hasn’t been identified yet, help us by encouraging your church or another one in your area to be a simulcast site.  You may want to play an even more active role, using your time and talents to make this event better than ever! Welcoming first time grandparents

Have you ever thought of welcoming them in to this very special group with a shower? Baby showers for first time grandparents are becoming very popular. Just look at Pinterest! Well here are some quick ideas for you to consider. A more in-depth look is available through a Legacy Coalition Ambassador.

Strive to make it casual, intimate, and fun. Usually it is held just for the grandparents-to-be as a way to welcome and celebrate this momentous milestone. You do not want to take away from the Mother-to-be or step on any toes.

Plan, prepare, and delegate; thinking through the personalities and interests of these new grandparents. Have fun and be creative! Of course, there are lots of ideas and suggestions online and in stores.

Remember to cheer them on and encourage them in this new God-given role. Choose someone, preferably another veteran grandparent, to share a short devotional on the importance of intentional Christian grandparenting. Consider having someone pray a blessing over the grandparents and the grandchild.
Focus on gifts that are essential items a grandparent needs to start this amazing journey. As a veteran grandparent, you know the items you needed again and again. Also think the bigger more bulky items that are hard to transport between the parents and grandparents home. These bigger gifts could be purchased as a group gift.

Decorations are so fun to plan and only limited by your creativity.  Consider using the essential items which then can be left for them. Games and showers seem to go hand in hand. You can find great ideas to add the fun element on Pinterest and other online resources. As you celebrate and honor these grandparents, do not forget to shower them with prayer and support.

Share with them resources you have found helpful – go to for great resources, seminars and conferences to help them as they begin this amazing journey!

Our Prayer

Lord Jesus, We find ourselves in a battle for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. The battle isn’t “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness” (Ephesians 6:12). Forgive us for the countless times we’ve attempted to handle this battle alone.

Cover us in the mantle of your love. Cloak us in your armor, securing it in place with the belt of your truth. Safeguard our hearts against the world’s depravity with the breastplate of your righteousness. Shod our feet to stand firmly for your gospel of peace. Protect our minds from Satan’s lies with the helmet of your salvation.

In all circumstances, show us how to use your shield of faith to extinguish Satan’s fiery darts. Show us how to disarm all forces of evil with your sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:11-17).

Urge us to be persistent in prayer, “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication” (Ephesians 6:18).

And remind us, with every breath we take, that the victory has already been won. For you are the victory!

In your Name, we pray.
(Grateful thanks to Sherry Schumann for this prayer)
