Summit Spotlight: Dr. David Jeremiah

We at Legacy Coalition are thrilled to have Dr. David Jeremiah as our key note speaker for Legacy Grandparenting Summit 2020.

David Paul Jeremiah is an American conservative evangelical Christian author, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church. Dr. David Jeremiah is the author of more than 50 books. Turning Point can be heard worldwide on more than 2,000 stations, as well as online. Jeremiah's radio program is available to over 480 million listeners in numerous countries. Additionally, Turning Point Television reaches a total of 2.7 billion households worldwide. The ministries he is involved with receive thousands of responses daily from all over the world.

Dr. David Jeremiah delivers the message of “the unchanging Word of God to an ever-changing world.” It is a message that we as grandparents need to share with our grandchildren as the world changes at an alarming rate, becoming more and more anti-Christian and biblically illiterate.

Dr. Jeremiah is in much demand as a speaker because of his commitment to the truth of the Bible and his special ability to help people understand how to apply biblical principles to everyday living.  Dr. and Mrs. Jeremiah are parents of four children and grandparents of twelve.

Fun fact: Dr. David Jeremiah is the son of a former president of Cedarville University in Ohio.

3 Reasons Grandparents Can Be Reconcilers

As grandparents, there are few things as joyful as relating to our grandkids, but for many, tensions or misunderstandings get in the way of that. Often the issues are with the middle generation, the grandkids’ parents. Our adult children are gatekeepers of grandparent-grandchild connections, so we have to figure out how to make peace or at least ...

Church Happenings – Grandparents Day Celebrations

According to the Pew Research Center, 66% of grandparents have not celebrated Grandparents Day. That is surprising and even a little alarming. Legacy Coalition is all about the fact that Grandparenting Matters! We need to continue to get the word out. Even though the month of September has been designated as Grandparents Month if you have not done anything yet – it is not too late. The free resources are up for you to use when it best fits your church calendar and schedule.

Lifebridge Christian Church in Colorado pulled out all the stops and had an intergenerational family activity – TAILGATING! In one parking lot, people set up their tailgate arrangements with canopies, BBQ grills, tables, chairs, and of course lots of food! About 150 people participated in corn hole, giant jenga, family water balloon toss, along with electric riding cars, tanks, and planes. Family photos were taken in honor of grandparents. A picnic area was also set up for those who did not want to tailgate. Fun, fellowship, and making of new friends occurred. An added blessing was a bunch of people who had never been to the church before came as invited family and friends. [Thank you to Robb Dunham for sharing this report and photos.]
Gwinnett Community Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia along with many other churches used the free promotional materials as well as giving a small gift to grandparents in attendance. The usual gifts included: Grandparenting prayer bookmark, Grandparenting poem “If You Grandparent on Purpose,” "8 Spiritual Practices to Influence Your Grandchildren for Christ," or the small Intentional Grandparent calligraphy print. A time of prayer over the grandparent was included in each church’s celebration. Several churches shared that their pastors spoke on grandparenting, using Psalm 78 passage. Resource tables with great items were displayed and times of fellowship followed the church services.

Other churches used September 8th as a kick off for their grandparenting ministry. CrossPoint Church in Modesto, CA reported that they had hoped for 30 grandparents to be in attendance at their first meeting while praying for 50. God answered their prayers abundantly sending 73 people to their first Grandparenting Matters study class.

Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Alabama shared that 90 grandparents came to their Grandparent’s Day event. It was evident to this church that Christian grandparents are hungry to become Kingdom influencers in the lives of their grandchildren. Grandparents were challenged to be peacemakers in their families while also passing down godly legacies to their grandchildren.

All and all the reports spoke of meaningful times honoring, challenging, and blessing the grandparents while also raising the awareness of the great influence and impact a grandparent can have in a grandchild’s life. As always we would love to hear what your church is doing – send to
