10…9…8…7…6…THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN! Legacy Grandparenting Summit 19 is about to begin-

Three incredible days that will change your definition of grandparenting, challenge you through powerful messages from leading Christian speakers, and call you to become part of this movement, this community of grandparents who intentionally pass on their legacy of faith. Seven general sessions, four breakout sessions, and a Resource Center Grand Expo will leave you with not only information but tools and passion to grandparent on purpose like you never have before! Be sure to go to https://legacycoalition.com/summit/schedule/ to see all  the great breakouts.

If you are coming, you may want to print this out so you can see what is offered. We suggest if more than one person is coming from your church, you choose different breakouts and share notes later. If you are not registered yet, it is not too late. Check on the registration tab. For people living in Southern California, there is also a one day registration available.  Not able to come, no worries – there will be thumb drive audios of all the pre-conference and breakout sessions available after the Summit.

A Brand New Legacy Coalition Store is opening soon!

Be on the look-out for the new store tab. This will be the place to find all the Legacy Coalition resources as well as other great Christian resources. Our two brand NEW books will be found here as well as other great tools to use with your grandkids. If you are attending the Summit, you will be able to purchase these products at the Summit Legacy Coalition Store.

Church Happenings

A church in Georgia, Shades Mountain Baptist Church, has started at GrandLife group. The Director of the group is Cynthia Moss. Each month a newsletter is sent out to their members to encourage them as they grandparent intentionally. This is an article taken from their January issue which is an adaptation from Dr. Ken Canfield’s book; The Heart of a Grandparent. Please see his book for a complete explanation. May it bless your heart as it did ours.

H.E.A.R.T.

H is for Heritage. How can you be more intentional about sharing with your grandchildren the life experiences and lessons that shaped who you are today? One idea: write each of your grandkids a letter that shares an important story from your life and why it’s important to you.

E is for Example, because children need many reliable role models and you are an important one. I would challenge you to decide on a virtue that you want to model for them—like devotion to family or dignity despite difficulties—and be purposeful in the new year about showing them what that looks like.

A is for the Angelic influence of a grandparent. This speaks to the comfort and protection we can provide as well as the spiritual guidance we give. One great action here is to ask your grandchildren often, “How can I pray for you?” Then be faithful in praying and keep following up with them about that challenge or struggle.

R is for Reconciliation. So many families have conflict and disagreement that pulls them apart and separates grandparents from grandchildren. Each situation is different and there are no easy answers, but one great goal is to become the number one supporter and encourager of your grandkids’ parents, even if there are great difficulties there. Take steps toward kindness and humility.

T is for Teaching. Many times, the unique grandparent-grandchild connection gives us opportunities to influence them like no one else. Two suggestions - 1) Share one of your hobbies or interests with your grands—assuming they show a little interest in it. 2) find something you’re both interested in and learn it together like attending an event or taking a class.

Check out these great NEW resources:

We are thrilled to unveil a Grandparenting Matters Series of Resources. Two of those books, one by Conference Director, Wayne Rice (Long Distance Grandparenting) and one by Legacy Coalition Founder Larry Fowler (Overcoming Grandparenting Barriers) will be available for the very first time at the National Grandparenting Summit. These books address two crying needs of grandparents who want to impact their grandchildren but face obstacles.

Plan now to pick one of each book up. May even want to pick up extras for those you know could benefit.

We also have some discussion cards to aid conversations with your grandkids, prayer placemats, promise cards to bless your grandkids with, and then an awesome CD of music just about grandparenting!
