Just wanted to send out a quick weekend update to say the second RECKLESS graphic novel is doing amazingly well in its first week on release. Even better sales velocity than the first book, so much so that (frustratingly) Amazon keeps selling out. That issue is being resolved ASAP, but since I've heard from a bunch of you about it, I would encourage you to call your local comic shop instead or find one online through And as I mentioned before, many shops got autographed book plates, too, so you can probably find a signed copy without too much effort.

In other news, this nice profile piece on me and the Reckless series came out from Publishers Weekly, and in case you missed last weekend's update here's a link to my video interview about writing with Elsa Charretier. And here's the link to the video version of the Word Balloon interview I did, talking about literally everything (it's a long one - be warned).

It's been an insanely busy time, as Sean and I continue plowing ahead on the third book in the series, DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, but to give you a small tease of it, here's one of my favorite sequence Sean sent over this week...

And one of my recent favorite location shots... My friends and I used to go to Canters back in the '80s whenever we drove up from San Diego, so I had to get it into one of these books somehow.
Since I've got you here, I'll end this little update with a few recent favorite crime stories... First up, my old friend Bob Calhoun on a cursed San Francisco church...

Next, this piece is amazing because the scam is so perfect for our streaming age...

And finally, who doesn't love a good jailbreak story?

Okay, that's all I've got for now. Send any questions for future newsletters to: and I'll see you sometime in the next month (in your inbox).
