Focus on the past and present: Sharing stories with Dr. Dave Dargie
South African church musician and ethnomusicologist Dave Dargie created an exhaustive collection of over four hundred hours of field recordings of musical bows from throughout the Southern African region. His choice recordings make up the nearly 40 CD "David Dargie Collection," published by the International Library of African Music. These CDs are accompanied by booklets of extensive musical transcriptions, analyses, and commentary on both the music and the musicians and the cultures represented therein.
On April 14th, Projeto Arcomusical has the honor of sharing a concert at Wheaton College last week with Dr. Dargie. The experience was a magical synthesis of honoring tradition and envisioning the future. We were honored to be in Professor Dargie's presence, hearing his stories and vast knowledge of the musical bow traditions of his region.
