Happy New Year One and All!

Here in the Bay Area the days have gotten very cold. Jacky frost has come to town and is bringing his white blanket over the morning landscape.

And you? What is the weather like where you are?

In this new year I am taking a look at the Moon a lot and very much wanting to see how she truly moves and looks in the sky. I want to track her regularly by way of going out, everyday and/or night, to REALLY see the changing shape, the position in the sky, how I feel under it in each new phase and so much more.

I share this because, as it IS a BRAND NEW year, maybe there is something you would like to do with your child(ren) similarly. Maybe you or your child really would benefit or are curious about what the weather is like every day. Or, follow a tree or plant in your yard, for the entire year!

What would that look like you might ask?

As to weather, you might create a journal to draw in or put photos of the changing clouds in. Or, you might make a weather stick and use it every morning to check the wind. ( A weather stick is a stick with a feather tied to it that will move with the wind when held up.)

A tree or plant in your yard? Similarly, have some kind of a journal and track the growth as well as decline of this plant. You might take note of what birds come around it. Does it like the Sun, shade or does it prefer to grow alone?

There are many things you can be looking for with just these two ideas alone.

Whatever you choose to notice or for how long, I hope that there will be at least one thing from the Natural world that draws your attention, that you’ve never really noticed before, and that your heart is made more full just from the observation.
