The Renau Scholarship is a $5,000 award in honor of the late Kenneth Renau for a student interested in some form of writing for their career (e.g., journalism, speech writing, poetry, screenwriting, strategic communication, social media). Eligibility: demonstration of interest in writing as career, junior in rank by end of semester (60 credit hours). To apply, submit cover letter describing interest and goals as writer, current resume, and writing samples that best illustrate your work. Up to two students may be selected for the Renau Scholarship at $5,000/recipient.
The $1,500 Considine Award is in memoriam of our own Ryan M. Considine—a COMM graduate who sadly passed a few years ago—for those pursuing journalism. Eligibility: demonstration of interest in journalism, junior in rank by end of semester (60 credit hours). To apply, submit cover letter describing interest and detailed journalistic/writing goals, a current resume, and journalistic/writing samples.
The Bolus Scholarship is a $500 award for those pursuing sports journalism. In honor of legendary Courier-Journal sportswriter Jim Bolus, the award is ideal for turf writers, but sports writers of all kinds are welcome to apply. To apply, submit cover letter describing career preparation goals, current resume, and samples of reporting.
