Michael and Sekedra are no longer facing eviction and have become FANN leaders. Thanks to Katie Byers, Director, St. Anne Community Outreach, Columbus, Georgia for sharing their triumphant story.

Families of the Food Security Group at Walton Crossing requested a cooking class specifically utilizing asparagus and avocados. Families also wanted to know how to cut safely with a kitchen knife.

What did they learn? "Read the recipe all the way through first." "I'll never buy store-made guacamole again!" "Pre-measure everything first."

Thanks to Joy Goetz, MS, RDN, LD of the Atlanta Community Food Bank for teaching the evening class for our working families.

GSU Graduate Students at Andrew Young School of Public Policy Create Evaluation Plan

We all know that Food Security Groups create food security. Our members will tell you that belonging to a Food Security Group also creates a sense of community, decreases isolation, and leaves more of their money to pay crucial bills.

How can we prove it to the rest of the world, though?

Enter graduate students (pictured above) at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State University!

As part of their capstone course before graduating with their Masters' degrees, Ms. Bethel Loul Habte and Mr. Yunseok Yang are developing an evaluation plan for Food Security Groups. Working under the direction of Dr. Cynthia S. Searcy (pictured center), Assistant Dean for Academic Programs, the students hope to pilot the evaluation instruments this spring.

Thanks to the United Way of Greater Atlanta for making it possible.
Has anyone conducted any surveys, questionnaires or evaluations in the last few years? Other efforts to quantify the positive changes that the program makes in members' lives? If so, please forward to nyarnell@foodsecurityforamerica.org.

We are building a library of such reports to share with everyone.
Donations come in many forms, and we thank you for all the ways you supported us in 2018 and beyond!
