873 Job Seekers Show Up to Workforce Board Job Fair For Catawba Nation

On May 19th and 20th, the Region C Workforce Development Board hosted an incredibly successful job fair for the Catawba Nation's Catawba Two Kings Casino.   The event was held at the LeGrand Center in Shelby, NC, with the goal of filling over 200 open positions to run the temporary gaming facility expected to open this summer in Kings Mountain.  As the casino opens in phases, these initial 200 jobs are expected to increase to 2,600 once the resort is complete.

A total of 873 people showed up for the job fair, and all of the open positions were filled.

Here are a few quotes from participants:
  • "It's amazing how much the interviewers and staff took time to not only ask what kind of job we wanted, but they really cared about making us feel like part of something special."
  • "I met the Chief of the Catawba Tribe today, and he took the time to talk with me and congratulate me on becoming a part of the team!"
  • And from a news crew: "We've been going to job fairs for months, and nothing has looked like this! The turnout is amazing."
The mission of the Region C Workforce Development Board (WDB) is to help employers meet their workforce needs, help individuals build careers, strengthen the local economy, and meet the challenges of global competition.
