October President's Message:

Greetings Rotarians and Friends:
As the seasons begin to change and the temperature begins to cool, The Rotary Club of New Albany is heating up as we continue to open opportunities in our community and worldwide more than ever.
October is Economic and Community Development Month on the Rotary Calendar. We have an excellent lineup of guest speakers this month to help us think more about how we continue to make our community better. Did you know that nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day? That statistic proves just how much more we need to do globally, but it all starts right here in New Albany.
Our Rotary members promote economic and community development and reduce poverty in underserved communities through training, job creation, and access to financial management institutions. Still, there is more we need to do.  This month I challenge all of us to think about how we can better work to strengthen local entrepreneurs and upward-rising community leaders in our region. By focusing our efforts on helping provide new opportunities for others, we are strengthening our communities and our region's economic prosperity.
During October each year, we also celebrate World Polio Day. This year's World Polio Day falls on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Rotary Club of New Albany is hosting a special themed 5:31 Club meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 5:31 p.m. at the Floyd County Brewery on Main Street in New Albany. The event, renamed Pints for Polio at 5:31, will help us raise funds to be donated to The Rotary Foundation to assist in eradicating this awful disease from our planet. Please consider this your official invitation to join us! Mark your calendars and join the Rotary Club of New Albany. All guests are welcome, and you do not have to be a member of the Rotary Club to join us for this fantastic networking and fellowship event, benefiting a great cause.
Be well, and continue opening opportunities for others!
-- President Joe
