Groundhog Day

The scene is all too familiar. Iowa State comes out looking sharp, dare I say dominant, against a highly favored opponent only to run out of gas late in the game and lose in the final minutes. We've seen it time and again and there is no denying that it's extremely frustrating.  While no one likes to lose those games, it's important that we view them with a bit of perspective.  The first two games of this season were embarrassing. The Cyclones looked and played like a team that might not win a single game in 2016. Quite simply, that is no longer the case. This team has gone from looking really bad to looking really good... for 3 quarters. We can talk about the reasons for the 4th quarter collapses over the past 2 weeks (depth, talent, coaching, play-calling) or we can realize that this team has improved tremendously and in no way looks like that squad that took the field in cardinal and gold from earlier in the season.

I said last week that I wasn't sure if the improvements would translate into wins. After what I witnessed last weekend in Stillwater, I now feel confident in saying that wins are forthcoming. The back half of our schedule is favorable and these kids are growing and learning exponentially. The culture appears to be changing but we are still not quite there yet.

We head to Austin this weekend to face a reeling Texas Longhorn team who was embarrassed in Ames last season 24-0. Make no mistake, the Longhorns remember that game and they will be ready, but these Cyclones have been so close these past two weeks and they are hangry (hungry and angry). This might just be the week we get it done. See ya in Austin and Go Cyclones!

The ISU Club of Austin has once again bought the parking lot where we have partied past tailgates for the ISU-Texas game. Your admission ticket gets you on our fenced in lot for not only to party ALL DAY with fellow Clones, but a prime brisket and sausage plate smoked up fresh on the premises, and staffed open bar with beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks (but while the supply lasts). We will also plan to show games on bigscreen TVs all day under tents regardless of any weather.

BUY YOUR TICKET NOW and SAVE $5 vs. buying on game day and cash only at the door! (plus it honestly helps us plan food, drinks and all the up-front costs we have already forked out for the lot, restrooms, security, etc). Children under 13 are free. Any and all proceeds will be going to our BBQ team's charity "Angels Above" Buyers Group supporting 4-H and FFA Youth of Texas. Official ISU Pregame Party Friday night!

But even before game day the Austin club has arranged drink specials at The Four Horsemen on Sixth St. for any Cyclone fans wearing ISU-clad apparel from 4p - 9p. This is a spacious double wide indoor bar upstairs centrally located between Trinity and San Jacinto and one of the few with a kitchen/menu. Highly recommend parking at the 8th & Trinity garage. Word has it several other 6th St bars nearby like to fly visiting team flags so make sure to look for the black awning and our ISU flag hanging by it. The Four Horsemen is being heavily promoted for ISU fans coming from out of town looking for a place to start the night so please come welcome them to how great our town is!
