Wishing you a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year

As 2016 draws to an end and we reflect on the year's activities at The Birth House, we are again filled with gratitude and joy. This year we entered our third year of operations and have continued to grow steadily, both in the services we provide and the number of families that come in our doors.

This year we have continued to enjoy and be proud to be working alongside our exceptional team of practitioners providing a diverse range of services, such as chiropractic care, clinical psychology, myotherapy, calmbirth instruction, infant and child first aid, infant massage, pregnancy yoga, and a celebration day for girls. We have also been extremely pleased to welcome new practitioners and services, including lactation consultants, postnatal mother and babe yoga, Parent Effectiveness Training, and mindfulness for pregnancy classes. Our postnatal support groups, including Mothers Group, Babywearing Meets and ABA gatherings have filled our space with new babies, big siblings and new parents supporting each other through the joys and challenges of parenting.

The Midwives Geelong team have kept busy throughout the year sharing the pregnancies, births and postnatal weeks with many local families. We continue to attend home births, births in our Birth Retreat and births in hospital. All of these are special to us as we provide the continuity of midwifery care that we are all so passionate about, and that provides so many benefits to birthing women and their families.
I am excited to share that next year I'm taking a break to travel Australia with my family. We have the caravan ready and rough itinerary planned, and the five of us will set off at the end of first term. While I'll miss the many joys of my role at The Birth House and my midwifery work, I'm thrilled to have this time set aside for family and adventures! It's easy to step away knowing The Birth House is in wonderful hands with our Services Manager, Melissa, and the Midwives Geelong team.
To all of our wonderful community, we wish you a very safe and joyous Christmas and New Year with your loved ones.

Midwife, Founder & Director of The Birth House

Parent Effectiveness Training

We all want to be able to raise happy, resilient, responsible and successful children, and sometimes, that feels like a very difficult challenge. Our children don’t come with an instruction manual but help is on it’s way…
Parent Effectiveness Training is held at The Birth House, with sessions running for 8 weeks in each term. Bookings are now being taken for Term 1 2017: Thursday evenings from the 9th of February until the 30th of March, 7pm – 10pm.

Postnatal Yoga is now on offer at The Birth House

Postnatal yoga for mums and bubs incorporates yoga practices which are uniquely suited to help you regain your core-strength and overall fitness after birth by restoring tone to the deep muscles of the pelvis and lower back. Babies are included in these postnatal yoga classes; interactive mother and baby yoga moves promote ‘active bonding’ in age appropriate ways through the first weeks and months. Term 1 2017 classes run on Fridays at 11.30am and 1pm at The Birth House. Facilitated by midwife Erin, these classes book out quickly, so please contact Erin as soon as possible to secure your place in Term 1 2017 classes. For more information, please visit:

Mindfulness for Pregnancy

"Mindfulness for Pregnancy" is a new class at the Birth House, commencing in Term 1 - 2017. Pregnancy is such a precious time in a woman's life and Mindfulness can help you make the most out of it. Research has shown that Mindfulness can help improve your sleep, decrease stress and anxiety levels, regulate blood pressure and weight, increase well-being levels and positive feelings, decrease the risk of pre-term birth, promote the healthy development of your child... and more.

Calmbirth - with Kath Maxwell

Imagine a calm & joyful beginning to your baby's life. The Calmbirth® philosophy is based on the belief that for most women, pregnancy, labor and birth is a normal and healthy life event. When a birthing couple embraces this they approach the birth of their baby with anticipation and joy.
