"Roger and Christine Saumaize took over the domaine back in 1978 and, in my opinion, are one of the top producers in the Mâconnais"

They have ten hectares of vines, mostly in the Vergisson area of Pouilly-Fuissé. (Pouilly-Fuissé can come from four different villages: Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé, Vergisson and Chaintré.)
Their Pouilly-Fuissé "Clos sur la Roche" parcel, now a 1er cru, was originally planted in 1981. From 2007 this domain in Vergisson enjoys brand new modern cellars where they vinify and age their wines from Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon-Villages.
The domain is practising organic and biodynamic. Their vines average 50 years-old and the philosophy of the farming is to, in Roger's words, "capture the energy of the place". All of the grapes are hand-harvested and depending on the vintage and parcel, may be picked in several passes. Gentle pressing, barrel fermentation. Wines are aged on the lees with occasional stirring for twelve months.
