Global Grant Community:  December’18 Newsletter

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the end of year newsletter from the GGC team at The African Academy of Sciences.
2018 has been another year of major deliverables for the GFGP standard and the GGC portal. Namely,
  • June’18, The General Assembly of the African Organization for Standardization adopted the GFGP as a new pan African standard.
  • Aug’18. The AAS and the Rwanda Standards Board enter into a 3 year collaboration for the implementation of GFGP in Rwanda.
  • Dec’18. The GFGP standard is officially launched at opening session of the Science Forum South African meeting in Pretoria, South Africa.
  • Our four GFGP “competition winners” ( Carine Kades, Babatunde Kadiri, Titus Barmasai & Asimenye  Kayuni) all  did a fantastic job representing the GFGP grantee community by describing their GFGP experiences to the assembled audience.
  • The beta version of the assessment system has been tested by numerous grantor and grantee organizations across 4 continents.
  • The Technical Working Group to develop the certification scheme was established and the first 2 committee meetings held.
Looking forward, 2019 will be the year of focusing on the implementation of the standard and launching the production version of the assessment portal.

GFGP Standard

In  Q1 2019, the official translations of the standard into French, Spanish and Portuguese will become available.
A programme of engagement will commence with African, and non African, National Standards Boards to raise their awareness to GFGP and encourage the national adoption of the standard.

Conformity Assessment & Certification to GFGP.

The recommendation from the GFGP Certification Scheme Technical Working Group is to pilot the Certification Scheme as a private scheme which will be owned and managed by the AAS.
Further details on the scheme and the timing of it’s implementation will be made available after the next TWG meeting in Q1’19.

Accompanying the Certification Scheme will be a GFGP Audit Plan. This plan will detail,  what an auditor will be expecting to evidence and review when they undertake their on site verification as part of a certification audit. This plan should provide the basis of the GFGP training scheme as it will provide the roadmap of what an organization will be required to demonstrate to the auditors that the requirements of GFGP are embedded in their day to day operations.

Further information on GFGP training will be available in the New Year when the audit scheme has been approved by the TWG.

GGC Assessment portal “go live”
During the last 12 months there has been extensive testing of the assessment portal and the lessons learnt have been integrated into the production version. We are scheduling to “go live” in early Jan’19.

We will shortly be emailing existing beta system users, on an individual basis, to inquire whether either they wish to have their registration and data deleted from the system or whether they wish to have their data ported into the production environment.

Subscription to the Global Grant Community portal

The pay to use subscription system will be part of the production environment and so access will be restricted either to those grantors who have taken out a subscription or to their grantees who have been invited to undertake an assessment.
