GFGP Related costs become an allowable expense
A challenge for grantees to become certified to GFGP is who will pay the costs incurred. The strategy of the GGC has been to lobby the grantors to approve that GFGP related costs are an allowable expense on their awards.

We are delighted to announce the following grantors have agreed that GFGP costs are an allowable expense on their grants (subject to individual scheme conditions):
  • The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Wellcome
  • Dept of Health & Social Care (UK)
  • UK Research and Innovation
  • African Academy of Sciences
We shall shortly be announcing the addition of a major Governmental funder to this group of funders who have agreed to make GFGP costs an allowable expense.
For further details on how this works in practice please contact the GGC Help Desk at GlobalGrantComunity@aasciences.ac.ke

GFGP Licensed Training Providers Scheme Launched
A Technical Working Group (TWG) to develop the GFGP Training Service Providers Scheme has been launched and the first TWG meeting will be held in Jan’20. This initiative is being led by Genny Kiff, ably supported by Vincent Nkundimana. If any training providers, grantees or grantors wish to become members of this TWG then please reach out to the GGC Help Desk at GlobalGrantCommunity@aasciences.ac.ke who will connect you to Genny and Vincent.
The GFGP Standard

The GFGP Standard is now available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese languages.
The copyright of the GFGP standard belongs to the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) and copies of the standard can be downloaded from the web sites of the National Standards Bodies of countries which have adopted the standard, namely: -
Country Web address Cost (USD)
Kenya https://webstore.kebs.org/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=15939&search=good+financial 30
Rwanda https://www.rsb.gov.rw/index.php?id=144 85
As part of becoming certified to GFGP, organizations will need to demonstrate to the auditors they have procured a copy of the GFGP standard.
The use of GFGP is now becoming widespread globally and it is anticipated the number of countries which have adopted the standard will continue to grow.
Please remember, because the standard has been adopted by ARSO, it is applicable in any country globally.

GGC Web Page

Feedback from our user community has been to request additional information related to the use of the standard, the pre-certification assessment portal and how to engage in the audit process. To meet this demand, we are pleased to announce that in Jan’20 we shall be launching a new GGC Web Page which will provide all you need to know about the GGC and GFGP.
Certification Compliance score to ignore Non-Applicable clauses
Feedback from organizations who have undertaken the pre-certification assessment has been that they need to be scored against the assessment questions that are only applicable to their organization so that their capabilities are only assessed against the clauses that are applicable to them. To meet this demand, we are pleased to announce that we have updated the calculation of % compliance to exclude any questions that are & were responded to with N/A.
Compliance score % for the GFGP assessment will therefore calculated as follows:
[number of questions responded to with YES] / [total number of questions excluding any responded to with N/A] *100
This therefore means that:
  1. When an organization selects 'no' this makes them not compliant and effects their compliance score
  2. When an organization selects 'yes' this makes them compliant and increases their compliance score
  3. When an organization selects 'non applicable' this has no impact on their compliance score but does contribute to the completed % score.
The adjustment/update will be released before the holiday break (19th December 2019). Once this is done it will change the current score on your organization’s GFGP assessment where “Not Applicable” has been used as a response.

We look forward to engaging with you on any of the topics in this newsletter.
Kind regards & Seasons Greetings from
The Global Grant Community team at the African Academy of Sciences.
