Message from Our Presbytery Co-Leaders

The drive from Dallas, TX to Mahwah, NJ was the final leg of my 40 days of wandering in the wilderness. While driving through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, I took some time to reflect on my journey and I was overcome by a great sense of gratitude.

I am thankful to Jeremy and the entire Presbytery staff who made it possible for me to be in and out of the office as needed and for holding down the fort while I was away.

I am thankful for the technology that allowed me to work remotely while on the road.

I am thankful for our co-moderators, Kirk and Doris, who encouraged me not to worry about Presbytery business so that I could focus on saying goodbye to my father and my wife's cousin.

I am thankful for parish nurses (Marion) and hospice chaplains who provided me with valuable resources and support. I am also thankful for all of you who communicated your love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

I am thankful for communities of faith, old friends, and extended family.

And finally, I am thankful that we do not need to fear death or grieve in isolation because we are sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit. We do not need to fear death because our faith teaches us that nothing can separate us from the Love of God in Christ Jesus.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. May you be filled with gratitude for all the blessings you have received.

Presbytery Friends,

Please be reminded that at the September Meeting of the Presbytery, the Presbytery voted to keep the 2023 Per Capita rate at the same $40 as 2022. By now you have received a statement of your 2023 per capita apportionment through the email that our accounting software has on file. Sessions and Pastors will soon be receiving a formal apportionment letter via the US mail, celebrating some of the things your per capita contributions have facilitated in 2022 and looking forward to your continued partnership in 2023. Thank you to those sessions who have already contributed their 2022 per capita in full, and to those who will do so before the end of the year.

Clerks of Session, please be on the lookout for a letter about year end statistics. It is already that time. You may begin entering your data at any time, and submit it as early in January as your session is able to approve the report. If you have questions, or need help completing the report, please feel free to email ( or call me (732-887-2540) at any time.

American Rescue Plan

Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, billions of dollars in federal rental assistance is reaching renters behind on housing costs, as well as landlords who have struggled during the pandemic. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently developed a new “Rental Assistance Finder” tool for renters and landlords. Please spread the word about emergency rental assistance.
