The Columbus Dispatch invited our organizations to submit an opinion editorial explaining our views/opposition to House Bill (HB) 512. Click here for the opinion editorial printed in the Sunday, March 25, edition and signed by Richard Lewis, OSBA’s chief executive officer.
HB 512 proposes to merge the Ohio Department of Education with the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation. The proposal also would undermine the authority of the State Board of Education.
Members are urged to continue the fight against HB 512. The Ohio General Assembly has recessed for a two-week spring break (this week and next). With House members back in their home districts, this is a great time to contact them to oppose HB 512.
If your board of education has not yet passed a resolution opposing HB 512, please do so as soon as possible. Click here for a sample resolution. Your board resolution should be distributed to all members of the Ohio House, and a copy signed by your treasurer should be sent to Marcella Gonzalez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
