On April 4, 2023, the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution calling upon all states “to refrain from imposing unilateral coercive measures” and urging “the removal of such measures..." This anti-sanctions resolution was approved with 33 votes in favor, 13 against, and one abstention. Predictably, the United States and their allies, including the U.K. and France voted against the resolution.
The Biden administration understands fully that the cruel sanctions and blockade that it has imposed on the people of Venezuela violates their human rights, yet it has continued its brutal policies. Every day the people of Venezuela are denied food, medicines and basic good because of sanctions by the United States, Canada, and their allies.
Join this month’s online picket action for reports from the ground about Venezuela’s resistance to the brutality of the U.S., and urgent updates on the case of Alex Saab, the Venezuelan diplomat unjustly held in U.S. jail.

People can send postcards as often as they want to the White House. It is a pressure campaign on U.S. President Biden and also a public education campaign. Folks can take selfies and share them on social media while mailing the cards, and they can be handed out at actions and events to engage with people and encourage them to take action for Alex Saab!

El 4 de abril de 2023, el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas aprobó una resolución llamando a todos los estados a “abstenerse de imponer medidas coercitivas unilaterales” e instando a “la eliminación de tales medidas…” Esta resolución anti-sanciones fue aprobada con 33 votos a favor, 13 en contra y una abstención.
