Greetings! We have a lot of events and activities coming up, so this update will help you stay on top of everything that is happening over the next couple of months.
June Meeting: 50th Anniversary Celebration and Salad Supper
We are celebrating our 50th anniversary at every meeting this year, but the June meeting will be extra special as our member appreciation night will feature a catered salad supper at the International Quilt Museum. This meal will be similar to the salad supper held in honor of our 45th anniversary celebration just 5 years ago. The 50th Anniversary Committee has arranged for the salads, desserts, and a special gift for members. The evening will also feature some history of the guild and voting on the challenge quilts. Doors open at 5 p.m. for voting and gallery viewing. Dinner will be served at approximately 6 p.m. You don’t have to bring anything besides yourself!
Block of the Month Group
The new Block of the Month group that Rebecca Brooks and Jacque Riese have talked about at the last two meetings starts this Sunday. We have space for 10 to 12 quilters and their machines at the College View Church from 1 to 5 p.m. Please text Rebecca at 402-817-9046 to save a space. We will have tables, irons, and ironing boards available. Please bring an extension cord in case the outlet is too far for your machine. If you can’t come this weekend but want to come in the future, let Rebecca know so we can plan future gatherings. If you can’t attend the sewing sessions at the church, you can still participate. Let Rebecca and Jacque know if you are interested in a Zoom option where people can sew together for a few hours from the comfort of their own studios. If we have enough interest, we will set that up in the coming months.
To participate in this free block of the month, visit Sherri McConnell’s blog. You can also go directly to the Block of the Month landing page. Scroll down to see the introductory post and fabric requirements. You will also find links for the blog posts and block patterns for January through May. You will need to download the block patterns and print if desired. Please contact Rebecca or Jacque if you have questions.
Give to Lincoln Day is May 24
Our online donation page is live for Give to Lincoln Day! Donations can be made on the site through May 24. To donate by check, make your check to Lincoln Community Foundation and write “Lincoln Quilters Guild” in the memo line. Drop off your check at any of West Gate Bank’s Lincoln branches, or take it to the Lincoln Community Foundation office on Wednesday, May 24 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please consider sharing this information with friends, family, and anyone else who might be interested in donating in honor of our 50th year. Maybe you know someone who has received a cuddle quilt or a Quilt of Valor. Maybe you know someone whose fourth grader enjoyed the Discover Nebraska lessons. Maybe you know someone who benefitted from the work of the Lincoln Covid Sewists. Help spread the word. Donations are voluntary, and all participating nonprofits will receive a share of the $500,000 in matching funds.
Awards Committee Member Needed
The LQG’s Awards Committee needs another member. This committee reviews nominations for guild awards and typically only meets once or twice a year. Please read the committee description and email president@lincolnquiltersguild.org if you are willing to serve on this committee.
