About SmartWork
SmartWork is a European project that aims to design and create age-friendly living and working spaces, with a particular focus on supporting older workers to maintain an active professional life.

SmartWork is a truly pan-European project and brings together a highly skilled and complementary consortium of ten expert organisations from across 8 countries.

The consortium is well-balanced in terms of involvement from ICT industry, academia and research as well as public and non-profit organisations. 


Latest Project News

2nd Consortium Meeting | Coimbra, Portugal | 25-26 June 2019
SmartWork partners met at the end of June in Coimbra, Portugal, for the second face-to-face Consortium meeting. This followed a successful kick-off meeting in Athens in January 2019. Warmly hosted by Caritas Diocesana de Coimbra and Instituto Pedro Nunes, partners took the opportunity to reflect on the significant progress so far and plan for the next phase of the SmartWork project.

SmartWork @ PETRA Conference | Rhodes, Greece | 5-7 June 2019
SmartWork partners led a workshop on Smart, Personalised and Age-Friendly Working Environments at the PETRA Conference in Rhodes at the beginning of June. Co-chaired by Otilia Kocsis (University of Patras) and João Quintas (Instituto Pedro Nunes), SmartWork partners presented a range of papers which were accepted for conference publication in the area of smart age-friendly working environments.

First Phase of User Consultation Complete | Thank you for your participation
A key feature in the SmartWork project is the engagement of end-users in the design and evaluation of the SmartWork system. The first phase of user consultation is now complete and we’d like to thank all those office workers, employers and carers who completed an online questionnaire and/or participated in interviews and focus groups. Your feedback is being used to design a first version of the SmartWork architecture.

SmartWork deliverables published | Available for download now
Three public deliverables are now available for download from the website. Check out our analysis of all latest developments and advances in the areas of Unobtrusive Sensing and Low-Level Processing, Data-driven modelling and AI tools for decision support, Ubiquitous Workplace and Accessible Personalized Interaction Interfaces, Work Flexibility Tools and on-Demand Training, as well as the SmartWork Communication & Dissemination Plan and details of our online presence.

Milestones | #1 and #2 achieved | Well done team!
SmartWork partners have had an industrious start to the project, reaching the first two project milestones with the launch of the website, social media and visual identity, and the establishment of system requirements, use cases, co-design methodology and ethics framework. Well done team!

AAL Forum | Aarhus, Denmark | 23 – 25 September 2019
SmartWork will be featuring at the AAL Forum, a great opportunity for dissemination at the largest European event for ageing well in the digital age, with 800+ attendees expected. The overall topic for this year is ‘Smarter practical implementation of digital technology to enhance active and healthy living’, with a number of thematic areas directly relevant to SmartWork e.g. THEME 5: ‘Seniors at the workplace – Can digital retain our precious silver workforce?’. EHB 2019 International Conference on eHealth & Bioengineering | Iasi, Romania | 21 – 23 November 2019
This year’s IEEE Conference focuses on ‘Smarter technology for a better health’, and SmartWork will feature in the agenda of an Ethics Workshop to be attended by Cáritas Coimbra.
EGen 2019 European Conference on Ageing & Gerontology | London, UK | 7-8 December 2019
This year’s EGen Conference theme will take the reflective concepts of ‘Independence and Interdependence’, and SmartWork is expected to feature in the programme. Details to be finalised.
