As Special Collections Libraries prepare for migrating to next-generation library platform services or adopting new policies that allow streamlining workflows and improving the access and discovery of rare materials, cataloging librarians have to develop the necessary skills to work with large amounts of legacy bibliographic data.
The Ransom Center is pleased to host Terry Reese, Head of Digital Initiatives and Infrastructure Support at The Ohio State University Libraries and developer of MarcEdit, for a daylong workshop on remediation and enhancement of MARC data with focus on special collections description needs.
MarcEdit is a metadata editing software suite used in libraries across the world to automate some cataloging and quality control workflows. This workshop presents an opportunity for beginners to get a hands-on overview of MarcEdit functionalities (morning session) and for advanced users to dive into workflows specific to Special Collections bibliographic metadata remediation needs. Participants can attend one or both sessions and are expected to bring laptops.
