What's New With Houghton/Keweenaw CTC
Our two-part Community Board Training on August 19th and 26th had a great turnout! We had 28 people at our first training and 26 at the second, with about 20 others who will be attending make-up training in September. The sessions were educational and fun, with activities and collaboration all around.
One of our first activities involved listing why we're proud of the youth in our area. Our Community Board declared that our youth are RESILIENT, KIND, ACCEPTING, ENTHUSIASTIC, CREATIVE, with plenty of AREA PRIDE, INTELLIGENCE, and LEADERSHIP, to name just a few of the qualities that were mentioned. With youth like this to inspire us, it's no wonder people are excited to get involved in CTC.
Other activities included creating a "living sculpture" of risk and protective factors for youth; developing our CTC vision statement; and choosing work groups to participate in. Work groups will begin meeting in September, with our first official Community Board Meeting in October. Our CTC is coming together nicely, with plenty of drive and motivation to create positive changes in Houghton and Keweenaw counties.
