Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Does your child have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 plan or special educational needs?  Would you like to learn more about how you can effectively advocate for and assist your child in and out of the school environment?  Want to connect with other parents who share similar concerns for their children? Whether you are new to the special education process or have been handling it on your own for some time, we would like to invite you to join us on March  28th at 4:30 for a Special Education Parent Advisory Council meeting. Located in the 2nd floor teacher workroom.  Hosted by both, Kuumba and Great Oaks special education staff.Hope to see you there!

Monster Mile Youth Nation Design Challenge
Last month, our 5th graders participated in the 2019 Monster Mile Youth Nation Design Challenge.  In this competition, 5th graders from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia submitted designs that, if selected, will be used to guide the paint scheme on the official Dover International Speedway pace car.  There will be many nice perks and prizes for the winning student and their school.
Out of more than 1,000 submissions from 28 schools representing five states, 4 Kuumba students made it to the finals!  These students are:

Akileh Nikie
Corjae Barbour
Yasmine Wisdom
Kahlia Thomas

The winning 5th grader will be announced in mid-April, so keep your fingers crossed.  Either way, our Kuumba students are all WINNERS in our eyes.
