Career Readiness

Career Readiness and Career Education is required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for all students in the state of Pennsylvania.  Each school in the state is required to report to PDE on career readiness standards.  Agora recognizes the importance of career readiness and enures that all students have access to career exploration and preparation activities that are standard aligned and evidence based.  Below is an overview of the career readiness programs for our elementary, middle school, and high school students.

Elementary Career Readiness Program
Students in kindergarten through second grade will meet once per month for Future Ready Assemblies during their scheduled Science/ Social Studies time.  Students will see the Live session listed in their OLS.  The assembly will be presented by the K-4 School Counselor, Mrs. Eileen Nelson.

Students in grades 3 to 5 will meet weekly in their allotted homeroom time.  One or two sessions per month will be dedicated to Furture Ready Assemblies and assignments.  The sessions for the third and fourth grade students will be presented by Mrs. Eileen Nelson, the K-4 School Counselor.  The fifth grade student sessions will be presented by the 5-6 School Counselor, Mrs. Amy Shehan.

Middle School Career Readiness
Students in grades 6 to 7 will be expected to complete a total of two assignments (career artifacts) within the Middle School Career Explorations course in the OLS.  Students in 8th grade will be expected to complete a total of eight career artifacts within the course.  The career course will achieve this requirement for the state standards.

Please note that all middle school students will be REQUIRED to complete the Middle School Career Explorations Course in the OLS, with the exception of Special Education Level 4 and Life Skills students.  Asynchronous students are also required to complete the career course by listening to recordings and completing the assignments.

High School Career Readiness
Students in high school have mandatory lessons that are centered around career readiness.  The high school counselors hold lessons during the Finding Your Path (FYP) class.  The class will give students an opportunity to earn 0.25 credit, along with taking quizzes to test their knowledge.  Please make sure to check your OLS calendar for dates and times of the lessons.

For more information regarding the Career Readiness and Career Education program, please contact your respective grade level School Counselor.  The contact information for Agora's School Counselors can be found at .

 Student Clubs and Field Trips

A common question families ask us when attending a virtual school environment is how often their child will get to socialize with others. Socialization is an important part of a child's development. There are many age-appropriate socialization opportunities offered by Agora and K12 for our students and families throughout the year.  In fact, most of our students find their social lives are just as enriching as their educational lives. The social scene is alive and vibrant here at Agora!  Discover the opportunities and experiences available through student clubs and activities.

Agora High School Clubs
Joining a club is a fun and easy way to get involved in our online community as well as explore new and favorite interests!  Agora offers many exciting clubs for our high school students. Agora's high school clubs are run by Agora staff members and consist of only Agora students.  Please visit our website for a list of our Agora school clubs at

K12 National Clubs
View the National Clubs Flyer HERE and find the FAQ's HERE.  To join a K12 student club, click the link and follow the instructions to sign-up for the club with your interest and grade level.  You will receive an email from K12 once you are enrolled.

Agora Days Out (ADOs)
Agora's Family Coach Team organizes numerous fun and educational trips each month across Pennsylvania. These are opportunities for students and their families to explore local attractions, meet other Agora families, and build strong relationships. Events throughout the state are open to Agora students and their families. The ADOs in your area can be found on the Agora Event Calendar which is located in the announcement section of your OLS. Check back frequently as new events are added each month.

K12 Virtual Field Trips
Students can also attend K12 Virtual Field Trips.  The next virtual field trip is scheduled on Tuesday, November 27th @ 1:00 PM.  Your student can join this virtual field trip to Yellowstone National Park by clicking HERE.
