Hi Supporters,

It's been a very busy year so far. We have moved after 24 years at the Telethon Kids Institute in Subiaco, to our new abode at the Niche Building run by the Neurological Council of Western Australia  on Aberdare Road in Nedlands.

You also might have noticed we have changed our brand slightly. We have kept the butterfly logo as it was very popular with our supporters because it symbolises family unity and harmony, but we now have a positioning statement to make it clear as to what we do. We like it, hope you do to.

We've also been busy during the Federal Election campaign pushing our barrow to get the Men B vaccine on the National Immunisation Plan.

We are also embarking on a plan to further spread our wings nationwide and develop more commercial relationships as we make more people aware about this disease.

Without your support and sponsorship from you and others we would not survive. We thank you for  coming on this remarkable journey with us over the past 24 years and we look forward to another few decades of hanging around and being in the minds of families.

Farewell Party at Telethon Kids Institute

We bid farewell  to our premises at the Telethon Kids Institute in Subiaco in May. After 24 years  we  moved out of the building and have set up our office at the Neurological Council of WA. It was such a lovely evening  to see so many "old" and "new" friends at our gathering which was kindly put on by the Institute. Professor Fiona Stanley and Jonathan Carapetis the Institute's Director all gave moving speeches and praised the work we have done throughout the community for almost a quarter of a century.

World Meningitis Day

On April 24 we celebrated World Meningitis Day in the Murray Street Mall in Perth. Thank you to all our supporters who came down and visited us. We handed out pamphlets, fridge magnets, books, stickers and of course our very popular balloons to the kids. It was a saving grace for parents who had  some very tired children on their hands during the school holidays. The Eliza statue in Crawley even got into the celebrations too!

CoMO Conference - Seattle

In September last year we travelled to Seattle to attend the Confederation of Meningitis Organisation meeting. It was inspirational to meet so many meningitis groups scattered around the globe who are achieving so much by spreading awareness of the disease. We were kept up to date from Chris Head the new President about the latest goings on in the UK with the Men B vaccine. The latest news is that it is offered on the NHS for babies only. England is the only country in the world to offer this vaccine for free, to babies. We are pushing it to be included on the National Immunisation Program but at this point in time, the Federal Government believes it is still too expensive. You can make a change by signing our petition.

Vaccine Trial for Men B

If you are a parent with a toddler and are interested in taking part in the Men B vaccine trial currently underway through the vaccines trial study in Perth, please contact or 9340 8542. They are looking for toddlers aged 12 to 24 months.

You might have seen us in the newspaper over recent weeks with our stories on the Meningococcal B vaccine and  the story about lovely two year old Robbie Buchan who contracted Men B at the age of five months and lost his limbs through the disease. His parents are campaigning to raise money for his therapy and raise awareness of the disease.
